    Preboarding Jumpseaters on SWA

Because in the past many of our captains/FA's asked jumpseaters to sit in the exit row. Why do you expect offline jumpseaters to be familiar with our internal company communications? If all of this was common sense we wouldn't have had to come out with our new rules for exit rows last year.

    Alpa Strikes Back!!!

Are you implying that ALPA told the company what to offer us during our 2002 contract extension (our current contact)? Or were you saying that ALPA guided us during the 1994 contract that the extension was based on? I guess I'm missing the connection between anything we've negotiated so far and...

    Reserve intel question-

To my knowledge there aren't any Navy Reserve intel units in AZ, but if she's willing to commute to San Diego or Aurora, CO there are units there. Either way have her call the Naval Reserve Intelligence Command at 800 544-9962 for the straight scoop.

SWA Update on JR bases for newhires

Just a quick reminder, your movement has nothing to do with how long you've been here and everything to do with how many classes are behind you. A few years ago folks were getting stuck in OAK for close to a year because of a lull in hiring, now the folks from the April classes will have ten...

SWA Update on JR bases for newhires

The June vacancy bids just came out. Here are the number of new hires going to each base: BWI- 1 MCO- 5 OAK- 41 PHX- 1 DAL, HOU, and MDW didn't have any new hires go directly there. So you should be able to get any of those bases once you have two classes behind you, but of course things may...

    JB to retire aircraft?

We have 737-300's that have been doing many more cycles and almost as many hours per day for over 20 years. You're going to have a hard time convincing me that any 6.5 year old aircraft has a lot of time.

Southwest PROFIT 1 QTR - BABY!!!!!!!!

At some point we'll also start retiring -300's, so not all those deliveries will be for growth. But it is nice to see some options exercised, I was wondering when they would start firming up orders for the next few years. So since we are more or less continually buying hedges, I guess you're...

    Dreamy 737

That really has nothing to do with the fact that the article is fiction. The article came from a post yesterday afternoon on the SWAPA forum, one of our pilots writes like a reporter and puts that talent to good use every April 1. Last years article was about an airline captain who was a...

Assoc. Press study finds older pilots=accidents

Do you not understand why any valid statistical study needs to be corrected for volume? That's why the airline industry uses CASM and RASM, not just comparing overall costs. If the U.S. had 500 GA accidents last year and the Bahamas had 10, you couldn't draw the conclusion that the U.S. was 50...

Assoc. Press study finds older pilots=accidents

It's a poor analysis, as it doesn't account for the amount of flying each age group does. Unfortunately many folks can't afford to fly GA much or own their own aircraft until they're older. The people I know who fly GA the most are retired and have their own aircraft. Older people spending more...

    Captain Upgrade at Southwest

You're assuming no one switches bases to upgrade faster. Most but not all do, so most people have upgraded at 6 to 6.5 years lately.

ATA flights join Rapid Rewards, Hawaii will be included 3Q

I'd expect the international codeshare soon. T1 DALLAS, March 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) today announced it will begin selling "ATA-only service" to select destinations, and members of Southwest's frequent flyer Rapid Rewards program will be able to earn...

    Navy FE Question

Yes, we have a CWO still flying as an FE in my squadron.

CWO's flying for the Navy again.

I doubt they need to do it, if they needed it they would be training more than 30 folks. My guess is that this is their answer to the often repeated suggestion of having a flying career track and a command career track. Instead of letting some JO's choose to stay in the cockpit maybe they'll...

CWO's flying for the Navy again.

In my VQ squadron we very rarely had more than one AC on a crew. It takes new guys a long time to get the hours to upgrade so I doubt anyone would be stuck as an AC qualified copilot very often. If anything, the CWO's would probably fly more due to the lack of demanding ground jobs and would...

    US Navy Reserve FE's

Without aircraft maintenance experience I don't think you would be eligible for a FE position. You would first have to cross rate, then get some experience in your new rate, then apply to be an FE. Most FE's at our squadron are E-6 or E-7 AD's or AE's, but I think all aviation maintenance rates...

    swa question

The February bid had new hires going to OAK, MDW, BWI, MCO, and one to PHX. Put another way, the senior guy coming online in February had his choice of five of the seven domiciles so it looks like seniority at the bottom has evened out some.
