Just curious what the jr bases were at SW and how long you can expect to be on reserve?

Thanks

Right now it is MCO. If you stay there for awhile, you will only be on reserve 1 month. If you move to another base expect 2-3 months on reserve.

I'm surprised that MCO is junior....... There are affordable places to live within 1-2 hours driving distance and it's warm. Usually, that equates to a very senior base. What gives??

Flordia sucks right now. Weather is as usual, but col is through the roof. Lots of people bailing the state. don't wrk for swa and not sure if that is the reason.

major MCO expansion that's what it is. Airtran is moving to another airside and SWA will get 5 or 6 more gates. It was senior until recently...right now it is the most junior base in the system. I am sure when LAS opens, that will change.

The reason people are not flocking to FL; insurance rates on homes & businesses! The FL legislature capped the rates that insurance companies can charge (socialism). Good idea in theory, but to prevent hemorraging (sp?) a lot of insurance companies are not renewing and or not writing new policies to counter the now limited amount of revenue they have among higher or equal risk. Eventually the state subsidized 'citizens' insurace will have to cover it and that means taxes will eventually (in the event of another disaster and massive amounts of claims) head a lot higher down the road. A lot are probably reading the writing on the wall. As a Realtor on the side, I can say that prices are good for buyers right now. Low and you can pretty much controll the negotiations. I am going to bid MCO when I start SWA later this summer. Cheers!

I grew up in South FL and I can tell you it sucks right now. Between property tax and insurance you can expect to pay 10 grand a year. And the school system is another story.

As of July OAK is still the junior base. Most folks still do a month there before going elsewhere, but some do make it to MCO right out of training.

LAS opens in October and will probably become the junior base at some point.
