I've been laid off a few times already. It goes with this career...when the industry is doing good, things are great and business is booming, but it is notoriously flaky and can turn on a dime. When things are going too well, I get suspicious!
I heard there was a mass layoff of staff and pilots (not just STL), which started over a month ago. It doesn't sound like they are finished yet either!
Yeah at Treasure KEY....they were always doing straight-ins no matter how many planes were in a pattern to land. That pissed plenty of people off and led to even more radio squealing. What a riot!
From the news reports it almost sounds like both engines were having issues right after takeoff. Unusual, but it does happen- look at this other recent accident in the AC500:
On June 9, 2008, about 1401 eastern daylight time, an Aero Commander 500S, N501AP, registered to and operated by...

Sentient has multiple websites, to find them all you need to use Google.
NTSB: Inspect Eclipse 500 Throttles Now
This might add to their troubles....they almost crashed at MDW!
A dual engine-control failure on an Eclipse 500 jet has prompted the NTSB on June 12 to urgently recommend the FAA require immediate inspections of the jet's throttle quadrants. The...
I was recently a passenger on a "peanut-less" flight. The flight attendant made the announcement that there would be no peanuts served and that no one should open any bags because someone had an allergy. You should have heard the collective groan and seen the grumpy hungry people start looking...
I spoke with this company sometime last year, here is what I remember-
*You are paid a base salary and then hourly so if you aren't flying you won't make as much as you can if you are flying all the time.
*You are on call 24/7, if you want days off they have to be requested in advance.
*...
This is an old post, but I just read it!
I'm curious out this one myself- is there any discussion before paperwork is filed (phone call after landing, etc), or will the flight crew find out without prior notice?
Damn almost $1000 for one pax on a mainline airline?
That is going to do nothing but boost sales at charter companies, especially if you have a group of people going to one destination. A small business jet like the Lear 35 is around $2000/hour (depending on your location) to charter.
An alternative....
For those on a meal system, just try to eat at restaurant chains when you can (Outback, Red Lobster etc) that have gift cards.
Eat your meal then ask for a gift card for the difference and you can use your "money" later on. This is just a different kind of per-diem, but it...
There ARE Captains that ask their F/Os to get the clearance before they have even started up, like they are worried about not being able to get the clearance.
I've been one of those F/Os that have been asked to do this, and I just tell them that ATC said they won't give us the clearance till we...
Steve,
Never give up, there is a way to get through if you really want to. It might take some time, but in the end things can work out if you perservere.
You aren't perfect and you have your limitations but you can always improve. Airline training is sink or swim and some people sink, but the...
