Southwest and flying in the Reserves/Guard

I doubt they consider it at all in hiring as they've become much more proactive about fully complying with USERRA over the last couple years. There used to be a few assistant chief pilots that gave probationary pilots a hard time about their military drop, but they seem to have solved that...

    New G.I. Bill

You may want to look again. After you've fulfilled your minimum commitment your time starts counting towards the three years to get full benefits. http://www.gibill2008.org/index.html

    Swa Pool 2

Hey 10, will you quit quoting jke406 in your posts? I put him on my ignore list a while ago so the only time I read his nonsense is when you quote him. Thanks, and welcome aboard! T1

    Grounded P-3s

I asked a friend at Pax that, he said it's much newer than Boeing would have you believe. Putting ordnance on the wing has caused structural issues, flying at low level over water for extended periods has caused some issues with the engines, and there were some other things I don't remember...

    Swa Pool

GK has said 5-10 jets, but also said around 5% ASM growth. The plan apparently is to tweak the schedules to fly the aircraft more each day. Of course that plan may have already changed, it's going to be an interesting year...

SWA GK talks about the industry

Quick aside- Airtran has always been great to me, both my wife and I JS/nonrev on them to go to our hometowns on a regular basis. I've never had a problem and also never paid the $25 for the JS. Airtran folks, thanks for all the rides. Now back to your regularly scheduled pointless argument...

Is this the HUGE Southwest announcement?

I think his point was that we lost money for one quarter in the early 90's. The streak that goes back to shortly after we started is for annual profits. As for the General, he thrives on attention. Quit giving it to him.

    Are you fed up too?

Passengers assume any male voice without a lisp is a pilot. I can't count how many times I've been complemented on the jokes I've told on the PA, only I don't tell jokes on the PA. As my wife reminds me all the time, I'm not that funny.

    Improvements in the atc system

No matter how efficient ATC is they still can't land more than one aircraft on a runway at a time. The limiting factor for the foreseeable future will be the number of runways at most major airports.

    Jr bases at SW

As of July OAK is still the junior base. Most folks still do a month there before going elsewhere, but some do make it to MCO right out of training. LAS opens in October and will probably become the junior base at some point.

    Airtran BWI-SEA

We had a BWI-SEA non-stop on Saturdays a couple years back. Didn't last very long if IIRC.

SWA 2006 New Hire Pilot Demograhpics

Your info is outdated. There is a retired captain in DAL that deals with all mil drop now. Don't know his name because I've never had to talk to him. I've been here for four years and have never had an issue, but as I mentioned before I know that some CP's were leaning on the new guys not to...

SWA 2006 New Hire Pilot Demograhpics

Don't know about DAL, but I fill out the online form and my trip goes away. It seems pretty easy to me. I've never heard of the one trip policy, I've dropped more many times without incident. That said, I have heard some bases CP's have been leaning on the new hires not to drop too many...

USAF SSgt + Playboy = naughty.

Whatever happened to that S-3 NFO that posed for Playboy right after she got out a few years back? I seem to remember my USNA friends telling me there was quite a bit of airbrushing going on there too.

Solemn flight delivers airman to final resting place -- Army Times

Glad to hear that some of the airlines are doing things right. Apparently some did not, so as of January 1 there will be no more remains transported on passenger flights. Only charter flights or military transports will carry them from now on.

    Miliraty Leave

After doing some more research it turns out that SWA did fire a probationary pilot who is a drilling reservist for reasons "unrelated to his military service", although he had been counseled about taking too much military leave. Since the pilot is on probation the union can't directly represent...

    Miliraty Leave

If a FO got fired, I'd bet it was for something else. The CP's know the USERRA as well as I do (and I had to sit through four hours of a JAG who helped write the law going through the finer points of it once). I've blocked military time off most months for the last three years and have never...

    Miliraty Leave

Actually they encourage you to meet all crew rest requirements for both the military and the airline which usually fall outside the dates on your orders/drills. Check the article in the latest Reporting Point for the specifics. I've never had any issues, the CP's in BWI have been great to work...

    Navy Reserves

There aren't too many of those jobs left these days. The latest I heard was that the Navy had about 3000 folks in Iraq/Afghanistan now but they're expecting it to go up to 12,000 over the next few years. I just delivered a herc full of Navy IA's to the sandbox not too long ago, it was about a...

    Beechjet 400A Flameouts

IIRC after the dual-flameout they found that one of the throttle cables was rigged slightly out of limits, but they never could find out why the other one flamed out.
