    Article about ASA on Bloomberg.com

Well, I'm not an airline pilot so I don't post on here too often but I do fly ASA pretty much every week. Am actually on an ASA flight later today too. My honest (and anectodal) impression is that ASA has actually improved alot in the past 12 months or so; certainly with respect to D0 / A14...

800+ RJs slashed from now to 2013

Rum, based on ASA's 3Q07 reported costs and with fuel dialed in at $3.50/USG a 874sm stage length on a CRJ700 has a trip cost of $7,917 (61,180ASMs x 12.94 cent CASM). Assume 9.5 hrs/day utilization. At a 100% LF that puts the BE fare at $113 one way. If we assume an 80% average LF...

    Looking to get Glider rating....

Texas you should be a able to find clubs operating year round. Winter is actually not a bad time to do training flights because the air is smoother and there is less demand on club aircraft by regular members looking to go soaring. A commercial pilot should have no problems getting up and...

    Pinnacle Travel Benefits

Does anybody know what happens if you are on the Delta side? Do you get benefits only on Delta or would you get them on Northwest as well? Or can you choose? I'm not sure if Pinnacle has started actually operating as DL Connection; please disregard if this issue has not yet been resolved...

Avgas shortage, so much for gliders being immune

There was something in 'Soaring' magazine about a year or year and a half ago about some of the new winches. As I recall launches over 3000' is possible i think because they use some sort of different type of cable that doesn't break as much and the winches can sense when to speed up and slow...

    CRJ-1000 for Skywest??

Didn't Delta operate 100 seaters up until a few months ago? A fuel efficient CRJ1000, or perhaps an E190 would likely make up the pilot salary disparity with lower fuel, maintenance and landing fee charges.

    CRJ-1000 for Skywest??

Overhead bins on the CRJ1000 will be larger than those on the 700 or 900. The cabin will be updated and refreshed. Bigger passenger windows. Larger wing. It will be a significant improvement over the CRJ200 and to a lesser extent the existing 700 and 900 as well. Not quite a mainline cabin but...

    CRJ-1000 for Skywest??

Why would Skywest go out an buy a fleet of 100 seaters and then go deploy them on top of either Delta's or United's routes (or major O&Ds)? Why would they bite the hand(s) that feed them? Does not make any logical sense to do this.

    Glider accident Bald Eagle Ridge

Wow. Glad to hear the gentleman survived. Those rotors can be pretty brutal.

ASA No Flap Ldg in SBN

Guess I shouldn't assume that. I'm not an airline pilot; if there is an emergency (of any magnitude) and the captain is the PNF on the leg would he typically take control of the aircraft? What is usually done in this sort of instance in a 121 enviornment?

ASA No Flap Ldg in SBN

I was on an ASA flight a couple of months ago that did a no flapper into YYZ. Captain did an outstanding job explaining the situation to the passengers; what to expect (shallower approach, higher speed, agressive braking, fire engines etc). Flight attendant did an extra strict job securing the...

    why no SWA regional?

If Southwest ever entered the 'Regional' jet marketplace it would be with a 90-110 seat product, sort of like what Jetblue has done. Completely different aircraft and economics than a 50 seat RJ.

    Ramp changes in ATL?

Geez, I hope they do something soon. I don't know what's going on over at ASA but I fly ASA every week (as a passenger) and the delays over the past 6 months or so have gotten brutal. ASA has always had issues with it's aTL ramp but lately it seems the flight is at least an hour late by the time...

I thought she was kinda hot. Didn't think US airlines hired hot FAs anymore.

Feel like your flight is always late? If it's Delta, it could be

I think I sat next to that woman yesterday on my (45 minutes late) ASA flight last night. I was afraid to take a nap in case she gnawed my arm off mistaking it for a biggie fry.

Having a keen eye for finding lift always helps too. :)

    900's posing problems for Skywest?

Skywest initially flunked the evacuation test. 100% true fact.

    Altimeters, AGL or MSL ??

At my club we generally set it to MSL but I think it's basically at the pilot's discretion.
