Are there any ANR headsets that will work well in both a noisy turboprop cockpit as well as a pure jet? Do all airline and corporate jet crews use lightweight headsets? Are these impractical or ineffective in an old beech turboprop? Just looking for something to last me for the long haul...
Just curious about the upgrade times at skywest right now. Are these times predicted to improve in the near future, or will they be getting longer?
Thanks for the help!
Hi All,
How long does it typically take to hold a line on a Metro or a 1900? Which bases fly this equipment? Which base would you likely have to go to to get a Metro or 1900 as early as possible? How about the brasilia or Lear? I've heard you have to be at Ameriflight forever to get PIC on...
I'm curious as to how likely it may be to get a job with a major or national without multi-crew, 121, turbine PIC time? Are pilots with single pilot, 135, over 12,500 lbs, turbine PIC often considered by the biggest airlines? What if they had a solid internal reference? It seems that the majors...

I have always understood the bus tie fuse to be the only means for one alternator to supply power to the opposite bus. Now I'm curious, if the bus tie was not there (or was blown) couldn't #1 alternator power bus #2 by routing power through the battery bus and down into the second bus?
If so...
A mechanical cause was NOT determined for an incident that occured while I was PIC (bent metal). I successfully passed the resulting oral re-examination. No enforcement action was taken and to my knowledge, no enforcement action was even opened by the inspectors. The only written...
Hi all.
1) How do Flaps affect control? I have read that they improve control by reducing the the thrust moment of the operative engine. I have also been told that they hurt control due to uneven lift created due to accelerated slipstream. Which wins? What about cowl flaps? Do they...
On some approach plates, there are fixes identified by cross radials that also serve as feeder routes. I was told, that if the feeder route is solid black and then turns to a thin grey line before reaching the fix it identifies, the DME listed for the feeder segment CANNOT be used to identify...
Showed up at 8:30. 10 hours later, I had my certificate in hand.
Had a great experience. Really learned a lot. This particular FAA inspector really helped me believe that we have some good guys on the inside.
I'd be happy to share the details for any of you that are close to the ride...
I've taken a couple of practice tests online and a few aeronautical knowledge questions have slipped in to the FOI. For example, questions on weather charts, airspace, etc.
I assume this is only by mistake of the web site. However, I may be wrong. Only questions labled FOI should show up on...
Hey all.
Just looking for some advice in my current situation.
Comm SEL test scheduled for this Friday. DPE cancelled last minute. Plane is going into shop for maintenance and paint. Won't be out until mid october. In the meantime, only other 172RG in the club is overbooked and I can't...
The 1980 172RG that I fly has a placard at the flap selector saying "avoid slips with flaps extended". This is not one of the mandated placards in the AFM. In fact, the AFM doesn't even mention slips with flaps. Is it disqualifying to use slips with flaps on the practical test with this...
Hey all.
I'm working on the comm/CFI right now and predict I need to borrow 5K to finish through CFII. That money is actually available at 0% interest (Thanks to Mom and Dad). Then I figure I will need another 5K to get Multi/MEI this will probably be through a bank. Should I borrow this...
This may be sort of random, but I've lived in line with the departure course of Miramar for a couple years and within the past two weeks I've see two airliners over head apparently departing Miramar. One was United and the other Northwest. They were really low so it drew a lot of attention...
Anyone know of any web resources containing past metars? On duats, I can only seem to get a few hours prior. I would like to be able to access metars from the day before. Any ideas?
thanks
Mike
Hi All. I'm working on my first lesson plan. It is to be on the propeller system, specifically the constant speed McCauley in the 172RG. I am to include information on propeller theory, constant speed theory, and information on the gauges and controls inside the cockpit. I was hoping some of...
