I got hired by WN back in 05 when I was an NJA captain. It was right before the big contract. When I left it was a no brainer: I was making about 80k/yr as a Hawker Capt.
For the first year at SWA, I often thought I made the wrong decision. I liked the flying much more at NJA, the...
To the trannies, this is mainly a PHX thing as the Luke mafia is huge here. You know when you fly with one of these guys when they have an f-16 pin, they ask you what you did before coming here, and can not go more than 15 minutes without talking about the Academy or AF. About half the guys in...
slow and steady. This is why SWA is the most successful airline EVER.
To the person who commented on slow upgrade times: thats funny. I personally don't mind making almost 200k a year as an f/o having weekends and holidays off. But to each his own.
This is exactly why I never wanted to work for UAL. You guys have a miserable work environment. Your work rules, ethics, and condescending attitudes are exactly what many of us (who have grown up) despise.
Do us a favor: keep doing what you're doing, and we will just laugh at you behind your...
I remember a few years ago when I was going thru Israeli security with my baby boy. The wife and I were just about to wake him up, take him out of the stroller, fold it up, and squeeze it thru the xray machine, when the Israeli security lady said, "what are you doing? You're going to wake up...
Yep! I flew with one of MEC members who voted on it (while I was at Netjets, and he a retired UAL guy with a mansion in San Fran). Anyway, he stated very clearly to me that if they brought RJ's into the fleet, they would have to lower 747 Captain pay rates (he, as a senior UAL pilot, was...
I flew with an F-teen kernel last week and at the bar he stated, "this is a great retirement job", I replied, "oh, you did 20 years, ans retired from the AF, I can see you saying that"
"no, what I mean to say that the peak of my career was flying fighters, not airliners".
"So, you peaked at...
I've heard the excuse that guys say:
If you have a problem with fighter pilots, then it must mean you're a wanna be and always pissed off that you didn't get to fly one.
That may be true to some. I can tell you from my experience at WN that ALL the Navy fighter pilots I've flown with, every...
I guess there are two kinds of pilots out there:
1. The dude who thinks the FAA is watching him at all times, that his F/O will NARC on him, and that the F/A, the pax, and the rampers all are out to get him. This guy will do everything by the book, and judges anyone that doesn't as an...
Just curious if the average airline guy makes a report to Center when leaving one altitude for another after he's given a PD or crossing restriction.
i.e.:
Center: Flight xxx cross GEELA at 11/250
Flight XXX: Cross Geela at 11/250
....when leaving altitude:
Flight XXX: Center, Flight XXX...
I flew the CV640/600 for Kitty Hawk and got a whopping 200-300fpm on a typical summer day fully loaded (both engines). Great airplane to learn how to to fly.
Make sure you read "FATE IS THE HUNTER" before getting checked out in of these - it'll give you some perspective.
Also, El Paso has...
I left Netjets for SWA about 3 years ago, before the new contract. I sometimes wonder if I made the right decision; most of the time I think I did.
Here's why:
1. NJA flying is more dynamic, but at SWA the crews and the company like to have more fun.
2. The airplanes perform better and...
