How do you think Great Lakes got to $14,000? It's because we as pilots and an industry let it happen.

I don't think I have ever gone to work in my life, I just have fun hanging aroudn airports, some pilots and airplanes. It gives be a reason to get out of bed every monring.

I don't know what yip says to his significant other...but my wife hands me a hot cup of coffee, makes sure my fly is up, and encourages me to "bring home the bacon"...I drive off and look forward to making her happy, spending time with co-workers, and doing a good job earning my pay.

Is there any other way to live life?

I've got no problem with that sentiment, but you seem to draw the line between professional and whore at just below whatever number you're currently earning. It's disingenuous and unseemly. You, yourself, have worked for well below industry standard wages. Now that you have climbed the ladder of success, you want to pull it up behind you. You rail against those who have not yet been able realize their financial goals, and you berate those below you for doing exactly what we all had to do when we were getting started. Your ridiculous blathering about somehow price rigging a free market economy is nonsensical. You don't get to dictate what you feel should be the minimum pilot salary. The market will decide, not you.

Am I being hypocritical? Possibly. Personally, I feel I made mistakes taking those jobs in the past and have learned from them. Making a mistake is ok. Repeating it is not.

Right on gret. You and I are usually on opposite sides but not this time. My Dad told me when I was kid "Find a job you love and you won't have to work for a living". I have had some bumps in my career, but, overall, it was pretty good. What bothered me some was that I would fly with guys who looked at it as nothing but a job (work). They were never happy. And I am talking about FOs at Delta who made 100k+ and were looking at a 10 year upgrade and 20+ years of Capt at 150-200+. Go figure.

And a lot of them post here on a regular basis telling us how miserable they are. Life is too short to be that unhappy when you have the ability to make yourself happy at all times. There is an up side to everything. Still living a childhood dream. Not that I though I would end up at KYIP, but it has been a ball and I would change very little. I count myself as truly lucky.

After 11 jobs since leaving the Navy, I have adopted another slogan, "Expect nothing and you will never be disappointed? I know it sounds like having no drive, ambition or goals, but that is not the case. There is so much in this business you have absolutely no control over, these effect your job. To fret unnecessarily over those things causes ulcers, it is not worth it. Getting depressed over stupid things that you have no control over is not worth it. By expecting nothing, it will always be better than nothing. Life is a ball.
