Sounds like a lot of pilots with inferiority complexes in this discussion. I've seen bad military pilots and bad civilian pilots. I learned first as a civilian. I had 1,000 hours when I entered Air Force UPT. I really learned aviation in the Air Force. I learned how to be a captain from the good captains I flew with, both military and civilian. What does it matter? Your gonna sit in the right seat for several years anyway.

Sparse has it right. I came from the military but also spent time as a CFI and flying night single pilot freight in piston twins because no one was hiring when I got out. I spent 32 years at 3 legacy airlines (2 mergers and 2 bankruptcies). During that time, I was a sim guy and, later, a line check guy. I trained many military and civilian pilots. Each group had their strong areas, but neither was complete when hired. The best were the ones who recognized that there was more to learn and worked to fill the gaps in their background. The best pilots are the ones who realize that they don't know everything and are always trying to learn.

thats weird, cause my matrix shows they're actually the worst. The best pilots are night unscheduled freight pilots.

I agree. There are plenty of pilots willing to work for peanuts. My attempt is to help others see their self worth. When enough pilots won't accept $70k jobs, salaries will go up. We are getting there in the 121 world, but I am concerned for the 135 world. Where are new pilots going to get their 1500TT to get to the airlines? What are they willing to do to, at what price to get the 1500? That's right. Work for peanuts.

We are skilled laborers folks. Know what your skills are worth.

I prefer the new fangled horseless carriages, but they cost money.

Are you suggesting unemployed pilots NOT hire on with Wheels Up because they want to make more money than Wheels Up is offering? 70 grand seems to be considerably better than what the government pays for unemployment, and I have been in that conga line a couple times.

Pretty easy to say when you have a steady paycheck coming in. I wonder how fast your perspective would change if you lost you job at NJA?

I know you've been at NJA long enough to have worked for crappy below market wages, so it seems you've already changed your perspective and are now being a bit hypocritical.

I have no doubt you would appreciate it if one out of every two pilots would get out of flying so pilots can make CEO wages. Heck, I would too. You go first.

Are you unemployed? If not it may be difficult for you to judge the impact of that situation in the 2009-2013 job market.

If you are out of flying 6 months it very hard to get your next job, so you have to take what is out there in order to get back in the race again. Just like the 6 furloughed NJ guys who thought coming to JUS to fly 50 years DA-20's into dark Mexican airports at night for minimum wage, might be better than unemployment.

Have they done a disservice to the brotherhood?

I think it has been mentioned before, but you really do need help. If you are trying to sell something or move an agenda, you are failing badly.

Don't like what you make or where you work, then get some balls and move on...you seem to think that you are brighter than everyone else.

Most people are pretty happy where they work and only losers like to bring them down to their pitiful level of doing their jobs and living their lives.

Eventually you will be put put out of their misery by losing your job and the remaining people will ask what took so long? Employers and co-workers get sick of this dialogue really quick.
