oh yes it does! I read someplace that more than 90% of the time the woman gets custody of the young children when both are working. There is a reason for that.

fyi - Lawyer told me that most states consider "long term marriage" as over 16 years (don't know if this is true, just something I seem to remember). So only 6 more and your wife will be worth MORE than half of your worth. It's good to be the "bloody mother"

Kids are something you can't just give up... once you have them.... they are there for life...

Now, in MY opinion, I would NEVER recommend staying home to anyone. It was the most boring years of my life. I am so glad it is almost over and I never actually did all the domesticated things I'm sure you make your wife do. I always had a cook and a cleaning lady and the kids had nannies,

I make my wife do? Why would you say that? I change the oil and paint the third floor windows not because I have great short term disability ins. but I don't have decretionary money to pay hired help. It is the same reason why my wife cooks and washes clothes.

the only thing I did insist on is that my kids study hard in school, that they play hard in sports, and they have fun in life. We laughed a lot and hugged a lot, that's it. That's all I did.

I hope you did... with all that free time what would you?

I left the dirty work for the hired help. And I still found it boring. I loved the kids to pieces but I think that raising kids is not as rewarding as some would like you to believe. I would not recommend it as a fulfilling career.

There is something humbling about cleaning ones own toilet...


Take two guys that have 60's muscle cars.. one guy had all work done by a shop to resotore it and the other guy did all the ork himself.... I say the guy who did all the work himself is going to have more pride, love for the car...

Like you said... the guy who had hired help restore his car...his ownership isn't as rewarding...

I failed at the Mommy of the Year Awards: I didn't sign up for class mom ever for any of them, I let them each pick ONE class trip a year to chaperone, I payed my way out of having to work the snack bar at Little League, I dreaded "back to school night" but armed myself with a nice tall glass a vino beforehand to help get me through the torture, I bought cake for birthdays and all partys were catered, crafts were a no-no.

Sounds like you have/had plenty of money to throw at this problem....

In my world this kind of cash isn't available... I am not so sure its common in the major airlines as well. Do many pilots you fly with have hired help like you do?

I did something right though. One boy at Yale, one applying early action (and no doubt getting it) and another hoping for Northwestern in a couple years. They drive themselves wherever they need to go nowadays, so I'm off that hook too.

Education is important...

My Point: It doesn't take constant "stay home" moms to produce decent kids. I didn't have to clean my house, cook for my family

What about the rest of us that do? Many dual income couples can't afford hired help because allot of the second income goes to child care...

I think your situation is uncommon if not unique...

and sacrifice MY LIFE to ensure that my kids succeeded....they had to do that on their own. I had a job (eventually I went back), their dad had a job and they had a job (school). We took school very seriously and I believe it has a lot to do with the fact that no one was ever just sitting around doing nothing. Everyone worked. Kids were expected to get A's.

A's are good.

Someday my boys will marry and I hope they respect their wives enough to let her decide what is the best course for her. Her children will turn out better if she is happy.

I just read in the paper today that at least 2/3 of all divorces are because the woman wants out.

Why does she want out? Are her expectations realistic. Is it becuase men are pigs?

I was watching the Presidential Candidates Wives have a symposium rolleyes: ). Romney's wife catered to the women by saying.. 'We are doing so much: keeping house, working, talking care of elderly parents, volunteering... all while our health is declining...

And men are pigs because they choose to pace themselves... Men choose not to over commit. So when we are sitting around watching the ball game and the wife is "working on something", the man is the jackass for not helping...

I am not surprised when I read what some of the men on this board have posted. It sounds like slavery, not marriage.

I'm sorry, those words make me want to vomit. Does anyone actually WANT to do that? I know one lady who hires someone to do all the cleaning but her husband just doesn't know it, her kids run wild and she has a bit of a pill popping problem but that's no problem because she 'volunteers' to give some very private THINGS to the Dr. who gives her the pills. She does all this while her husband is away at work.

I have a bet with my husband on how long it's going to take before her husband notices (the rest of the block figured it out last summer when she started dressing sexy all the time) He thought it was for him.....duh!

My question to the gentlemen on this board: if you have a daughter who seems to be quite bright, what are you going to tell her when she grows up? Are you going to say, "Darling, I think it's time for you to spread those legs and forget about your plans. Your life is simply going to be about raising the babies now. Life was fun but now your choices are over, you are going to put yourself secondary to everyone in your family and you will cook and clean up after them. Their needs will become your biggest focus. Enjoy it, this is why you were put on the planet, to pander to men and their children....enjoy cleaning out our toilets.

That's probably most men's dream.....they hate feminism because we actually now have some control over our lives vs. being their little slaves. They hate it. I mean, even in the cockpit, some guys have trouble having a female as a captain because God forbid they take orders from a woman. Some guys just have issues.

Also, your last post reminded me of a Russian bride infomercial I saw a few years ago. It had all these Russian chicks on there in bikinis talking about themselves and how they want to find a husband in the states. Well, one is like "My name is Ivanka (or whatever). I love to cook and clean." LOL! YEAH RIGHT! It was hilarious!

I think many men and women make the easier choice of just doing it. They have to cook and clean thier own houses. If they don't then it won't get done. Not everyone can have hired help...

Why? you do the same thing to your hired help.. you just pay them... Someone told thier little girl to go find a nice rich women who will pay you to clean... and she did and you pay her...

Besides, women have more choice now and life is still too demanding difficult etc...

FLYUAL... you have to make men into controlling slave drivers.... why? Because in your house hired help does all the sh*t jobs. On the one hand the hired help in your house may be second class citizens with very little respect from your family.. on the hand they are freinds to your family. Either way.. no one in your tight family circle does sh*t work. So if YOU were to cook or clean it would be demeaning and that would define you in a lower class than your family.

However, not all respectable women can have hired help... so in your mind if, although illogically, a woman is cooking and cleaning then its because she is being driven by a controlling male pig. All one has to do is read your quote above.

Feminism is about power.. not equality. If you look at who the feminist are and thier agenda you will see the black and latino women still doing the same ol' sh*t jobs. I'd like to think if you and Mega were 20 year girls in Russia with a bleak future what you'd be willing to do... you'd proabaly clean a toilet and allot more to live in anytown, usa.... instead why not be grateful for what you got....and have empathy for those who do not....
