Callouts sound very similiar to CAL operations. I agree just a tadbit too much talking. Maybe, it will dawn on somebody that you can still be the monitoring pilot and be somewhat silent.

except at CAL the flying pilot calls for configuration and checklists only. i (as flying pilot FO) don't say squat about baro/radar altitude on a visual or instrument approach. sounds pretty silly to me. that's the non-flying pilot's duty.

but since SWA pays well i could probably adjust my thinking...

What the f?

Is this place just a stepping stone to get the 737 type rating just to go to LUV? Is it common now to jump from major to major?

Have fun flying the 737 forever domestically. Oh, and say goodbye to ever flying the 787.

I'm sure they will also enjoy having more days off and making more money than your 777 pilots.

Yes, I am intimately familiar with the procedures. Calling every 100 feet on the baro, 500' and below, causes the overall scan to be less "scanful".

I really hope not. I dont know who you fly the 737 for(or maybe it's just a bought type rating for the intereview), but I'm at CAL and we have a contract coming up. Southwest has the highest paid 737 drivers in the country. It gives us a point to negotiate ABOVE in our next contract. I sincerely hope they keep those payrates. That way we can exceed them :)

Thank YOU!!! Finally someone gets it. SWA is the only company that is upholding the pay for the industry. EVERYONE should be happy about that and aspiring to get their pay back to those levels or HIGHER. These F ing idiots that keep puking out "swa will get theirs" are the problem with this profession by trying to bring swa down INSTEAD of bring themselves up!!!

Hey BD

Didn't the flight ops "kernels" at SWA come up with those dumb-as$ callouts? In case anyone has not had the pleasure of jumpseating on Southwest on a visual approach, handflown, F/O's landing, it is actually kind of amusing. Apparently the F/O is required to call out altitudes "500, 400, 300, 200" even though he/she is hand flying a VISUAL approach and should probably be looking at the runway. Not exactly sure what the captain/pilot monitoring is supposed to be doing at this point. Capt. eventually wakes up and says "100 and 50" I think. Bizarre.

Great callouts there SWA/FO - I'm sure much FOM-envy from all of us ;)

The term "kernal" identifies you with a group of know-nothing know-it-alls who probably tried to make it in the military, but couldn't because of some character flaw that would likely have gotten you named Guest of Honor at a series of well-deserved blanket parties. The fact you so casually mock an entire group of people that consistently passed rigorous scutiny by others more honorable than yourself, then likely risked their lives for you to be a pompous pr1ck any time you want, clearly identifies you in my mind. As far as your arrogant critique of SWA procedures, you're just plain FOS, and I hope the crews figure out who you are before you jump again. FAHWDYKMA ws

ps Interesting you picked the handle "Benjamin Dover" ws

How many?

The latest that I heard is that 5 left CAL this week. 3 went to Southwest and 2 left for UPS.

Not sure if this is entirely accurate.

You WANT me on that wall. You NEED me on that wall.

Never carried JDAM - before my time - but besides dumb-iron M-82's, 83's and 84's, dropped quite a bit of LGB's and Rockeye in Desert Storm USN A-6. We even shot a few Zuni rockets at some boats but they didn't do much.

So, not a good ID Wingsweep. Yes I did serve my time, got shot at, and lost a few good buds along the way. Not quite sure why my ?????????? the ludicrous, hand flown, make your own callouts visual approach procedure you got going there has you all fired up and making completely wrong assumptions about my background.

"Pompous pr1ck?" Whatever, but if you re-read my post, I hardly "casually mocked an entire group of people" - just your F/O visual approach callouts that SWA/FO seemed pretty proud of. Would you not agree that it might be a better idea for the Pilot Monitoring to make those calls and let F/O flying concentrate on flying a good visual glidepath/approach? Also, simply a "500" call seems to work just fine most everywhere else. I'm sure current and future SWA F/O's would appreciate if something besides "the company pays my paycheck - I'll say whatever" was the answer. "The company" is pilots - flight ops leadership. I'm sure your non-pilot management could care less what your callouts are. Didn't it bother you in the military when the answer seemed to be "that's just the way it is?" Does it have to be?

So, thanks for your service too, whichever one it might be, but you're way off base with your rant here.
