Thanks Lear. Or the tattle tail could man up and PM one of us or just air it out like Bill and I do! We have a spat a couple times a year, call each other scumbags and move on.

Right Bill? :D
Heh heh... actually the reporter wasn't a SWA OR a AAI pilot, just someone reporting the SLI spin the thread started to take. Not that I blame him, I'm getting tired of SLI in every single SWA or AAI thread myself, but it's on everyone's minds, so it's to be expected I guess. Such is FlightInfo life. ;)

Either way, I just ignore it and move on. At least the thread got back on track... glad to know it's not going to be a huge ongoing fleet issue and that hopefully the -300's will be back in the air again soon. Get a good screening/checking program for the new issues in place and onward we go.

(yes, I know the beer thing drives you crazy, couldn't resist).

All -300's have been inspected and returned to service. SWA will operate a full schedule tomorrow.

Yeah Gup ....Guilty as charged! :0

It's all entertainment....anybody taking it further needs to just relax and realize this website doesn't make your world go round as much as some would like it to!

So Bill you now believe what we were saying about Boeing?

Hey F/O,

If they only find cracks on SWA birds then no...

If they find them elsewhere, then I will let this die and quit jumping the conclusion train.

Sorry man....

Hey Bill the collective ass of SWA is getting sore, you gave us herpes, and you forgot to pay the bill, what else do you have for us?

There is a video with the section of the plane that failed on a table. It looks like it was just cut out of the plane. Are they going to write off this airframe?

After a little fiberglass cloth, fiberglass resin and some polyurethane paint it will be good as new. ;)

*snicker* ;)

Sheet metal repair like this is done all the time. From the pictures, it was just the sheet metal that was removed. They'll put new sheet metal on at the rivet joints, seal it, repair the interior, do several pressurization cycles, inspect the rest of the airplane for stress during the rapid-D descent, and put it back into service.

Maybe 2-3 days out of service, a week tops unless they find damage in the inspection if it was stressed during the descent.

Hey ASA,

You might want to get your wife looked at also.....

Will they wipe the oxygen masks with alcohol before putting them back?

At least you are coming to your senses. We (all legacies) were the top while y'all were bottom feeding. Better chance of us regaining our historical spot than you maintaining your short time in the sun.

Easy ASA, Delta is the best airline in the history of aviation...

except for a bankruptcy and some issues called scope. Not sure what that's all about. But the best, really.

By short you mean the past decade?

Where'd that come from?

LIKE I SAID....SWA Problem....

Lufthansa Advised Southwest on Reducing 737 Maintenance Costs: UNITE HERE Calls for FAA Investigation of Program that Touted Fewer Checks

Press Release Source: UNITE HERE On Thursday April 7, 2011, 7:00 am

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In 2005, Lufthansa Technik helped Southwest Airlines migrate their Boeing 737 maintenance program to a new model that promised to be good for business. In a press release, Lufthansa wrote, “The significant reduction in the number of maintenance tasks results in savings of up to 30 percent on maintenance costs, with less time in the hangar corresponding to extra revenue-earning flying hours.”

After a hole ripped through the cabin of a Southwest Boeing 737-300 flying over Arizona last week, such proclamations ought to cause pause.

While the FAA has ordered a review of the agency’s older plane inspections, the union UNITE HERE today called on the FAA to also review how cost-reduction programs such as those pushed by Lufthansa pose risks to proper execution of existing FAA standards.

Last Friday’s incident is not the first cause for concern from Southwest since the airline instituted the revamped maintenance program with Lufthansa Technik. In 2008, the FAA sought civil penalties against Southwest for “flying planes that were not inspected for cracks.” Nicholas A. Sabatini, the agency's associate administrator for aviation safety at the time, said in the Washington Post, "The FAA is taking action against Southwest Airlines for a failing to follow rules that are designed to protect passengers and crew.”

Lufthansa Technik had a long relationship with Southwest, dating at least back to a 2001 project to revamp Southwest’s maintenance management. Lufthansa Technik still listed Southwest as a client as late as 2009

Actually, we took our raping in 2004-2006 timeframe. So, via a bankruptcy judge you have had about half a decade at top. How do you think your rates would stack up had your mgmt. not made a highly successful fuel hedging bet? My guess is middle of pack. Don't get me wrong, I am glad you guys were able to piggy back on our 2000 rates and more importantly hang on to them the last 5 years. Gives us a target.

By short you mean the past decade?
