Probably what is best. Put a stop to descriminashun.Or do what some countries are already pushing to do: no age discrimination, fly as long as you can hold a first class medical.
Let's eliminate age discrimination, but to be fair let's also change the paradigm of airline seniority...with the advancements in communication, aircraft design and crew coordination, the role of airline captain as the primary decision maker has diminished. So has the justification for the two tier pay scale (FO vs CP). One pay scale based on longevity (per aircraft type) would make mergers painless and not financially impact 1/2 the seniority group...

UAV technology will quickly overcome all these problems. The "shortage" will come at the most opportune time.Circadian rythm disruption, High Altitude radiation, recirculated -dry-air, subject to never ending frequencies/vibration/noise, constantly changing water/bacteria supply, thousands of people and their diseases/infections locked up in a tube w/you every month, hotels and bedsheets and suspect cleaning, occasional, but REAL, Life and Death decisions, polyester uniforms, airplane coffee, skank F/A's that touch Pee-Pee ( If you're Lucky), Ex-Wive's, blowed-up engines, a "good" Hong Kong layover, municipal Police Departments, airport fast food, crew meals, vending machines, beer and tacos at 7 am, 48 hour Vegas layovers......The List goes ON and ON.
Their job they f^cking got when age 60 pilots retired before them -
You aren't special-You haven't accomplished one thing a 30-50yo pilot hasn't as well. + you had way less barriers to entry to a major than this generation has had bc your generation also saw fit to outsource half the domestic legacy flights- so please- spare us your outrage over 65- the profession will be better off when it's not in the boomer's greed oriented hands
Here's an honorable pilot who is retiring with dignity and respect for the next generation who are just trying to provide for their families. Glad there's at least one of you still out there. Enjoy retirement..Seconded. Thank you all for your mentorship over the years, but it's time to retire and let the rest of us have a shot at making a living. There have been enough barriers to career advancement over the past decade or so without exacerbating the stagnation problem even more.
