They should round up the guys that want to fly til 70 and euthanize them. Their home lives must be sweet. Their third wives screaming at them all day having them go pick up their dual ply adult undergarments.

I would guess that in the case of SWAPA, APA, IPA, USAPA (is that a union?) you would have to be an active member of the seniority list. Therefore you could not be an officer if you were past retirement.
USAPA? Their record speaks for itself, so NO.

A union that really supported a lowered retirement age should lead by example, and have an officer mandatory retirement age of 60. It seems a bit disingenuous to claim to be opposed to raising the retirement age, yet benefitting by full FPL for all those extra years.

Flying last week from PHX to the East coast with a US Airways jumpseater on the jump. Conversation turned to his reason for the trip to the coast. He explained to us that he was one of a group of "pro age 70 pllots" working under the radar to have the age 65 retirement age changed to 67 and then stepped to 70. He explained to me and my over 60 captain that they were attempting to keep this as clandestine as possible to keep opposition to a minimum. At this point I became irritated and asked what excuse they were using this time. He explained to us that the coming pilot shortage would be devastating to the airline industry and that in order to avoid this the retirement age would have to raised to 70 to keep all the experienced pilots in the left seat . He stated the progress was very good and that a change in the retirement age would come before the end of the year. FO at our company has a father working for the FAA and confirmed that strong consideration was indeed being given to changing the age. The gift that keeps on giving!!

So what happens in 2017? Same exact scenario. Push it up to 75? 80? How would this actually solve a shortage problem?

Like our national debt problem, kick the can down the road 10 years. Do you really think management today cares about the stae of the industry in 10 years? HE LL, in 5 years, they'll have college paid for their next 10 generations.

No they like most executives need to appease their share holders most of which only care about the upcoming quarterly numbers.

My rep in the House is a pilot and had supported 65. Claims he won't support any further increase, and I tend to believe him. He wants to see the jobs kick in. His words paraphrased "increase to age 65 made the profession less vibrant". Additionally, he indicated the language of the Experienced Pilot Act that allowed over 60 guys to come back was snow job by Prater that made them think the rule was a fair deal to pilots who might want/need to come back. When basically no one came back without their seniority, Congress understood then it was only a seniority grab. The next increase will only offer age 65+ a surplus to the bottom of the FO list IMO...

Prater asked many of his constituents why they wouldn't re-elect him. 65 was the common answer, even though he still didn't see why that was such an issue for the rank-and-file. Moak is less out of touch. He wants to get re-elected, badly. Moak knows any change to the retirement age will kill any chance of re-election he may have.

Without ALPA on board, any age change is out of the question.

Besides, anyone that's flown with a 62-64 yr old lately knows most of them are at the end of their limits when it comes to safely operating in this job. They will even tell you this themselves.

IMO, not going to happen any time soon.
