New FOs leaving CAL for Southwest

Your response doesn't address anything in his statement. You will fly 737s domestically forever, and you will most likely never fly a 787. But, you do point out the great pay at Southwest, which is what you should get for flying 5-6 legs a day at a profitable airline.

I guess, I was implying "how do you know we will not have the 787 here, someday?"
 
Still have to buy the type rating to work at SW from what I can see

gotta pay for health insurance at CAL.

Other then international flying, please name the airline that only flies 1 leg a day? It is probably an airline in bankruptcy protection with 5-6 day trips being very common. All carriers fly multi-legs, thesedays.

Now, lets talk "ground time" - who wins this? Which airline has the most swaps?

Some of you guys sure seem hypersensitive. It is not like it has any impact on you personally one way or another, so why care? Why wouldn't a new guy living in PHX for example, far from any CAL base, want to have the chance to be based at home, aside from any other factors? Most people value their home time and personal/family life. I am truly sorry if some of you don't.

As others have said, I think this is a good way to get improvements for your next contract, and not just for first year pay/benefits. Maybe you should thank these guys who left for voting with their feet. It only stands to benefit you and your future co-workers.
 
This coming from bozo who thinks flying an ILS without a flight director in the sim is an ecliptic challenge. AA? Not even hiring idiot. DAL and United? Both still in bankruptcy with United not hiring yet either (and probably for a considerable while). SWA? Yeah - if you like the 737 gig for the next 30 years of your life. FDX and UPS - sure, understandable.

I think you need you need to take a break from your raw data ILS practice and smell the coffee buffoon. There are plenty of app's on file and they're hiring like crazy with confirmed orders on both 73 NG's and 787's at CAL. Yeah, when you were hired at CAL that may have been the case, but now we're replacing clown's such as yourself with guys that have a good attitude, and are glad to be here.

I'll let you get back to your callouts...

I guess if "nothing happens" while you are paying for your insurance then the type costs more. But if something "does" happen, a type could look real cheap.

Bozo - the bulk of my jet time is in fighter aircraft. I know you don't have a f**king clue what that means, but we log about a 1.0 to 1.3 per flight because we actually do something besides fly from Newark to Rochester and back 5 times a day like the bulk of your RJ time.

You know what a fighter is right? Nah...nevermind, get back to your callouts.

AA, I couldn't get to him if I wanted to! He's locked in the 73 sim practicing his no flight director ILS's. Those are challenging you know...well, at least according to a clown like him! LOL

easy there kernal..... Airline flying has nothing to do with formation flying, bombing $hit, PX or the BOQ. You are a VFR F-teen pilot.

Our "callouts" are overkill here at Southwest and they are in place for kernal like you. :eek:
 
Here we go again....mine is bigger than yours. I like driving to work and not having to pay for a hotel or crasspad or waiting for a plane. Flying the same plane for the rest of my life...no new school...great. Not going overseas...great.....I have a 3 hour a$$ and probably ADD so I don't like long flights. Everyone has a reason to be where they are....they like it....or they can't go anywhere else...or where they want to be did not want them.

When will we all just be friends....Wait I feel a knife in my back.

Atleast the RJ guy can fly straight, make smooth turns, hold airspeed in a climb and fly thru clouds without freaking out.
 
Got news for ya

Continental has ALWAYS been a stepping stone to go somewhere better like SWA,AA,Delta,FEDEX,UPS, United, etc.

Was that way when I was first hired on at CAL and still seems to be true today.

Get over yourself Double Shot. It looks like you made a good decision AT THE TIME but unless you're turning 60 this year you never know.....

I bet less than 20 pilots have left CAL for SWA in the past 2 years. I know a few have gone to FedEx too and all the power to them. They should go to SWA or FedEx or any other airline that suits them better.

It's all about QOL. That's it....
 
This is one of the dumbest topics ever. Who cares if a few people use it as a stepping stone. I don't think many people are going to pass up a job offer from CAL hoping they will get called by somebody else. If they want to leave let them without bashing them. Maybe CAL management will wake up on the whole first year problems. I fly international and it really isn't that great. I like the one leg thing, but I can do that with transcons. Let people choose whatever they want for whatever reason without jumping their sH#? I would rather fly a c-172 for $200,000 and be home more than fly a 787 for $100,000. No brainer!!! QOL is usually the most important. I say more people should use CAL, then things will change.
 
They can't do that unless they stop using IRO's on Caribbean turns and Guam. I think it is great that they type us if the s$%t does hit the fan, which can happen at any airline it will be nice to have options. A type rating in any Boeing is very valuable in the contract flying business.

Any Idea of how many BBJ's there are out there compared to how many pilots have 737 type ratings? Not a bad thing to have but sure as hell not the best to have in the contract business...
