JetBlue class dates

Starting to think my background check is hung up. Guys are getting class dates that interviewed after me. I have been asking around but none of my JB contacts can give me any info other than the "training department is backed up so just hang tight". I guess I will continue to wait. Kinda frustrating but what are you gonna do.

Tomorrow will be 12 weeks since phase 2 notification.

P.S. When (if) the major carriers really start ramping up hiring in the next few years I really hope JB shortens this process otherwise people aren't gonna wait if someone else offers them a job first. Just a thought.

Currently $47/hr for 1st yr pay. Make it $40/hr 1st yr and then we have some moolah to distribute to the guys at the top. Isnt that the standard 'eat your young, pay your dues' type of contract?

First year pay has already been lowered to $47 (by the company), but that's not what I was referring to. (I won't even go into the ridiculous initial pay for the E190, for which the justification was "You'll all be A320 captains, so why do you care?" The quote was by David Neeleman.)

What I meant was: Who benefits from a probationary period, i.e. new hires not union members for one year and not subject to parts of the contract regarding termination?

I agree with you there, but then why do 99% of carriers have probationary periods? Is it a trade off to the company allowing them to fire whoever they want within the 1st yr in exchange for pay/benefits for others at the top?

All I am saying is that it doesn't have to be that way, that "ALAP" doesn't require it. I would just as soon a contract apply to all pilots as soon as they finish IOE. IOW as soon as they're off training pay (which is also set by the company), the entire contract would apply, not just parts. Why do you assume that a pilot group whose most pilots have less than 12 yrs of service would throw new hires under the bus? That's a pretty serious charge.

You don't know whereof you speak. The first year pay for A320 FO's was lowered and the E190 FO rate was raised to $47. This was after a number of would be A320 new hires were awarded the E190 in training only to have new hires junior to them put into the A320 for higher pay. The pay was then made the same so that future problems of this sort wouldn't have a dollar amount assigned to a damage award in arbitration. I don't remember ever being asked if any pay scale was a good idea to begin with - it was take it or leave it.

Im not saying anyone is getting thrown under the bus. I just keep hearing so many carrots about how ALPA at jetblue will be different than every other ALPA carrier and I hope they can make good on their promises if it comes to that.

My apologies since my mouth is still sour and my a** still hurts from previous ALPA experiences, but dont worry because I cant vote in this election anyways.

There are no promises being made. The only true statement that can be made at this point is that JetBlue pilots will have more of a say over their own careers under a CBA than under the Direct Relationship(tm). The rest is up to us.

Calm down. You do realize there are guys out there that have been flying jet part 121 for 6-7 years with thousands of hours, and just never had the chance to upgrade right. Comair, and Eagle has hundreds of guys like this. Do you think they are not qualified to sit next to you?

Jetblue still has the qualification to have experience in a/c over 30,000 pounds I believe.

No 30,000# qualification at JB. I just flew with a new hire that had only flown turboprops.

It was pretty obvious he'd never flown a jet before.

FWIW, I believe the ALPA vote is going to pass. We will finally have a say in our future, as well as the protections we currently do not have under the DR.

Also.....EVERY major airline hires pilots without jet time. I've flown with pilots who have had experience flying jets, as well as those who have had turboprop experience with no "jet" time. Neither is a determining factor of an individual's skill level. There is always a learning curve with a new aircraft, but the old "jet vs no jet" experience argument is insignificant when it comes to hiring pilots. History proves this. Airlines rely more on the type of flying backgrounds as well as accumulaed flight time. At some point in the future, perhaps the jet engine will be a thing of the past. Then we will all have to adapt again.

Give me a break about pilots with no jet time - most airplanes (including the Airbus) fly themselves for the most part these days... Flying a Saab 340 or Metro in rough weather would be more difficult than flying an A320. Shhhh, don't tell management!!!!!!!!!!
