I cant talk you out of your opinion, but I can point out where you are wrong. Unless you were born with the silver spoon, you have got to be in some type of debt, and if you were born with the spoon, then congrats on your future inheritance, new car, nice home etc..
A lot of us have spent 4 years in college, and 1-2 years on flight ratings, and possibly even some military career hours.
Most people with that type of education and debt will start out at what your trying to top out at.
Inflation by the time your topped out will make 75,000 a year look like horse piS*.
Are you in your 20's? Then plan on topping out by the time your 40, and your willing to go through 20 years, 4 contracts, possible furloghs, and conutless dung reapers coming in to take your flying at half of what your willing to do it for???
Dude... Your bound to be over your SJS by the time you hit your second year in a regional. Please....Dont make the mistake of bolstering the ranks of puke regionals who are just loving the fact guys like you are willing to work 22 days a month for 20000 a year, and all with the hopes of making what you should be paid right out of school with the education you supposedly have.

Everyone always references the $20,000 a year figure, yet it is only for the first couple of years. With per diem and hrs. beyondtha tguaranteed, you do much much better.

After upgrading and flying for a few more years, the pay does go up.

you make things sound so bleak, why ot leave the profession. Hopefully things will get better but asthey stand now, theyre not. Im still gonna get involved. Those who are there can complain, but they still work that job. Theres plenty of opportunites out there to make more at soemthing else. But they stay anyway.

Point is, 70=80 /yr is not so bad flying 80+ hrs a month.

Sorry guys, but I have to set this guy straight. AMISH, it is obvious that you must be in your early 20's and unattached (that means married). Certainly, you don't have any children, at least, none that you have been made aware of. Let me give you a dose of reality. This $20K salary per year that you speak of... yeah its not that big a of a deal if you only have to deal with it for one year, but what if you deal with it for a year.... get furloughed.... enter next regional job.... deal with it for a year.... give concessions, then get furloughed... on to next regional job... the saga continues. I've got my 3rd child on the way in less than 3 weeks and this was my New Year's gift. I will do my job the best I can, show my passengers the best service that I can provide, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I was concerned and extremely disappointed. Oh yeah, and your upgrade, well.... it is very difficult to upgrade when you have to keep starting at the bottom. Please, for the sake of all of us, wake up and think about what you are saying before you open your mouth. I am not greedy, I just want to be able to take care of my wife and children and have a good time with my fellow pilots. However, I'm afraid that, as long as their are youngsters out there willing to fly for $3/hr less than myself... my fate is sealed. Granted, maybe they can afford to do it, cuz they have no real responsibilities, other than some credit card tabs. Please, anyone else who posts on this site, think about how stupid some of the trash coming out of your mouth sounds. If what I see on this site is representative of our "quality operation", maybe I would've been better off at my charter op, or Colgan. Do your jobs and if you have something to say, say it to our company. This is not over.

Of course I want better pay for myself and everyone else who flies. But what choice does anyone have. If all regional pilots went out on strike maybe theyd get better wages. I dont see anyone doing anythign about this.

I totally understand if you already have ALL your ratings and experience to get a job at a regional and therefore wanting to get one. I, we.. all know what it's like, we've all been there. And I sincerely respect your wishes. But please don't sell yourself short when it comes to income in this business. That is precisely what we are trying to fight against in these trying times. Holding your selfworth when it comes to compensation is one of the few weapons we might still have. Saying I'm OK with this and that isn't gonna cut it when you're at a regional, sitting as a F/O for a million years having to pay bills for you and your family. Unless of course, you're independently wealthy and you really just don't need the money. And if that was the case with me personally, I would just go out and buy my own airplane and fly wherever I dang pleased, whenever I felt like it not when scheduling told me to do so.

My original comment was mostly geared toward the youth that's coming up in this profession at the flight school level. Some may know others may not know about the slaughter that's taking place at airlines now at days with its pilots. Most still think that; 1) they are going to upgrade in less than two years therefore the money will come soon enough, 2) they will be captains for one or two more years and they will move on to a major. I'm sure there are some that this scenerio may have or has played out for them. But we know that this is by no means the norm. The vast majority will probably at some point be; disgruntled, hungry, tired, fatigued, broke, nervous about a commute, nervous about a furlough, and sometimes even lonely since you might not get to spend important days with your family. Small price to pay you say? Yes perhaps, if salaries at the very least, kept going up with inflation and your bosses treated you with the respect you deserve. Otherwise you're left to deal with what we have today; whipsaws, concessions, consessions, consessions, possible furloughs, possible furloughs and furloughs if you don't see it their way. Unfortunately, with no near end in sight it appears.

Amish, EVERYONE in your situation has/had Shiney jet syndrome. I had it too. I would bet 99% of them lost it after 2+ years at a regional.

The "I'll fly for poverty wages for the chance to make $80,000" argument is getting old.

You don't get it: there will be no $80,000 wages at the regionals........EVER!! As long as people are willing to sell their soul just to get a job and wear a leather jacket.

By the way:

$18.00/hr = about $15,000/yr
$34.00/hr= about $25,000/yr

Plus, getting paid for 85 hours per month means working 10-14 (sometimes 16) hour days and doing ALOT of sitting in your uniform and NOT getting paid. Never kept track of how many hours I "worked" if you count from the time I dutied in until duty out. Probably shouldn't. It would be around $10.00/hr

Therefore you will clear 13-16K your first year
25-30 your second if you are lucky
After 3-4 years you will upgrade and clear 40-50
Then you WILL be furloughed because somebody will do it for less!!
Repeat above, go to another regional, log onto flightinfo and read about a kid who wants to work at a regional so bad, he will do it for $14.00/hr Let's see what you tell HIM

And oh yeah, 21 days off this month, 86 hrs credit. Didn't use one bit of vacation. I was lucky.
