... So, if you want to get to India or North Africa from the West Coast, why take an Amercian airline or one of the Middle Eastern-based goliaths?
WHY, REALLY???

If for some reason I need to fly to some third-world $hit-hole, it won't be on on that countries national airline. It'll be on a US flag carrier or I'll stay home.

Wow. Emirates crews stay at 4-star hotels in 3rd world countries. That's so revolutionary. I wonder if any legacy crews can do that.

...and the resulting service for the paraphilia fan.

In a related note MXP-DXB just launched officially.

Extract.

"Operating a trans-Atlantic route has been on our agenda for some time. Having carefully monitored traffic flows we have identified strong demand for both a direct connection and, importantly, for the Emirates product. The route is currently underserved, particularly with a strong premium product offering this is where we see a clear opening for Emirates. We intend to capitalise on this opportunity, stimulating further demand and encouraging additional traffic flow in both directions,? said Tim Clark, President Emirates."

If this works....and it multiplies as the full article implies...EK premium product and inflight service will seriously damage the competition. Only a matter of time before the A380 takes it and other TATL.

US carriers better start building suites, showers and bars.

Perfect timing for a night out in NY from our Midtown hotel... ; >

As long as unions, voters, and lobbyists can influence Congress members, it won't happen here. One Congressman from an airline hub city can throw a wrench in any foreign plan. Sorry Sugarsugar. Have fun in Dhaka.

Bye Bye---General Lee

hahaha

How would ALPA fatten their piggy bank by caving? Is Emirates simply going to write ALPA a check for $100 million?

Obama administration supportive? Says who? Bush administration was supportive of the Dubai Ports World sale - how'd that work out?
By the way, Obama opposed the Dubai Ports World sale. In his opposition, Senator Barack Obama stated 'we're allowing our port security to be outsourced to foreign governments' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubai_Ports_World_controversy

Finally, again, JFK-MXP does NOT meet traditional criteria for granting 5th freedom rights. It is not an underserved route.

sugar, Why do you never provide proof of your claims?

I love how people are just the authority on everything. You want proof, check the news today.

I just saw Detla's mockup display of their new business class suite in JFK, it looked like a dentist chair. They have a long ways to go before they can compete with the premium market. First thing they have to get rid of is their FA attitude toward customers
