Most likely these are the same babies whining about "dehydration" on a 90 minute flight if the F/As don't bring them water every 15 minutes, moaning that jet cockpits are "loud", or crying that the uniform hat wreaks havoc on their hair-gel sculptures.

Friggin' wankers....go fly cargo where a crew consists of nothing more than the pilots and boxes don't care what the cabin looks like. You're so over-enamoured of your "airline pilot" status that you're the type wearing your uniform to the grocery store as well.

Um...wrong. Although it's true my background has been mostly corporate and VIP flying, I did accidently spend almost 5 years at the airlines...3 1/2 of them as a Captain. I do know better about what it means to lead a crew in that environment....certainly than to listen to some prima donna tell me about "dignity in the profession" as an excuse to sit on his a$$. If you think it's beneath you to cross some seatbelts to help out the crew, no uniform, position, or ALPA etc card (been there got the T-shirt) will ever substitute for the dignity you lack. Might as well pin wings on a 6' tall turd.

But in my current job I don't carry anything for the pax...and not even my own bags for that matter, beginning from the hotel desk...ground handlers etc. do that. I let them do it because not only do they swarm you, but learned long ago that the poor shmoes will get in trouble if they're seen not doing it by their bosses. So I relent and I tip 'em well. We crew F/As in the cabin for all our aircraft, corporate-small as well as the airliner-large, so the teamwork concept holds. As far as the pax I fly golfing or engaging in almost any kind of physical activity???.....now THATS a laugh!

You actually think that by SQUEEZING labor the major airlines will again become profitable.....Not!!! Rizing operating costs will eventually catch up to everyone. Even SW and JB.. The whole business model needs to be re-invented. Transportation needs to become a by-product of the services provided by the airline. Today's airline business models have in essence remained unchanged since the days of the DC-3...Kind of like the internal combustion engine... A bunch of new hitech gizmos have been added through evolution but IT STILL BURNS FOSSILE FUEL!!

Airlines need to become creative on extracting revenue from passengers, while providing transportation. And I'm not talking selling BOX lunches.. New technologies need to be implemented were goods and services are SOLD to the pax. while on board.. Inflight gambling needs to be legalized for example... Computer outlets need to be installed and exploited to extract additional revenue.

Take for example Las Vegas... Vegas doesn't make money from selling ROOMS to patrons. They spent BILLIONS of dollars building fancy hotels to attract patrons and practically give the rooms away... A similar concept needs to be applied to the airline business if it is to regain profitability... Cleaning cabins, working for peanuts, and further degrading the profession will not guarantee LCC pilots a permanent job. It will just prolong it.

Respectfully, dude. I disagree. The LCC business model is unstoppable and the LCC is the wave of the future. As this industry changes, so do our attitudes. We must be willing to work more for less pay or rest assured, someone else will. If you wanted an decent lifestyle, dude, your in the wrong place.

I've got one. Great pay, outstanding schedule, numerous perks, happy colleagues, and lots of variety. Biggest downside?..(and easily edging out "Being in close proximity to your occasional homicidal extremists"), suffering through airline travel he!! to get to and from work a few times a year. If they built train tracks across the oceans, I'd be eagerly commuting via rail instead. Oh well, no job is perfect.

Yes, it would indeed be demeaning and beneath your lofty position (I mean, what isn't?) to get icky newsprint ink smudges on them from picking up someone else's paper in the cabin. When I went down for my SWA interview, the Capt was helping the elderly and women with their babies on board while talking with me about how great the company is. It was a selling point for me. I cannot see it as degrading, simply a shift from old school making a ton of money with the majors to being greatful of having a freaking job post 9/11.

in only a handle full of trips so far i have never failed to witness this every single day. it makes a difference and what for some is degrading is simply the golden rule in action for others. no one makes us do what we do but we do it because it is simply the right thing to do and as a bonus it helps our bottom line as 30+ years prove.

And since when is bring coffee to the flight deck part of the flight attendant duties? It isn't at our airline, it's a courtesy that they offer to the flight crew so why can't I offer them the same courtesy and help them out?

Granted its easy after doing it for 3000-4000 hours; but just once, just one screw could potentially I don't take out 550+ lives (reference KLM greets Pan Am). I can only think of a couple other jobs where a screw up could take out so many people at one time: US President, Military Missle Launch Officer, Nuclear Inspector (Homer Simpson), FBI, CIA, maybe a couple other related jobs.

I don't consider this the easiest job in the world. Think of what you did to get to this level, assuming you are at "this" level.
