It's perfectly normal, and don't worry about it! Also, don't feel bad about it if it doesn't go away over time either. It doesn't make you any better or worse of an Instrument pilot, just ingrain it in your head "ALWAYS trust your instruments!"
I still get the "leans" on occasion. It'll happen...
Thanks H25B, that full report made a lot more sense. Sad...
And for two experienced pilots to botch up an approach so badly is almost hard to comprehend.
OK, I just looked up and read the accident report, and I'm a little confused about what your referencing about "figuring out more about the place." It didn't give anything but the accident flight description.

I wouldn't sweat it too much. If you have any decent amount of time in an airplane, you should have no problem transitioning to the glass. It takes all your major instruments and combines them into one small tube to stare at. For me it makes for a much quicker scan, and gives your eyes less of a...
Agreed with 81Horse.
There was simply too much information coming in that morning (most conflicting) for them to have been able to act properly to prevent another attack. No one had EVER suspected that someone would hijack multiple airliners to create a terrorist attack on America. Even if they...
When SDL was my home a couple years ago, the scuttlebutt was that it was a million dollars to join (I dont remember it being a yearly deal), but part of the membership privelages included getting to use any of the members jets when you wanted. Likewise, any of the members could use your jet as...
So THATS why I could never get that prop to feather! :D
I obviously wasn't typing my thoughts in an orderly manner. The point I was trying to make was that you need to get the engine shut down, which of course entails you feathering the prop first. But you get what I meant... :)
Here's a great FAA-ran website to help you check for all current TFR's, to save you a call to FSS. It also has a map you can click on and see graphically where all of them are in place (great for x-country planning):

Also, I use this government ran website for...
Maybe I'm missing the obvious here, but instead of adding 30 and subtracting 2, wouldn't it be easier just to add 28 to start with instead of 30? Or are you just using 30 to make it simpler to add in the ole tired head?
Anyways, great idea for a post! I personally have been trying to figure...
Also, just as a suggestion for someone starting out.
Check the weather reports every day, even if your not flying, to give you lots of practice reading and understanding them. It'll also allow you to see different weather "on paper" then just the weather of a particular day you fly. Then most...
I remember watching that A320 land like it was yesterday!
Your correct it wasn't an isolated incident. I called up a good friend of mine who flies the Airbus for a major airline, and he said that has happened on more then one occasion. I got the impression that they don't particuarly train for...
I agree with all the above.
Two things of importance here. The propeller will fail (unaided) to a feathered-like position.
The bigger problem here is not what the prop is going to do, but the fact that your engine is out of oil. Time to get proactive and shut that baby down, and feather it...
Absolutely, I got a kick out of the first line of the story: " It should not be taken as fact -- eyewitness reports are rarely as accurate as the term suggests"
If only all "wire" news agencies reported to this level.
I will typically do a search before.
METAR's - I check airports within about 50 miles from the West and North of me (as that typically is the direction weather travels where I live). I'm looking for wind speeds/directions, visibility, cloud heights. If there is a significant difference between...

Witness: Crossfield's Plane "Hit By Lightning"
By Russ Niles
It should not be taken as fact -- eyewitness reports are rarely as accurate as the term suggests -- but one man who lives a few hundred...
You're right, my bad. I must've just automatically associated the two. You guys must've ran the Alternator guy far away with the beating he received...
I'm not disagreeing with you for a second on this issue. But I do feel that we have an obligation to help out a fellow pilot whose unfamiliar...
Even the Brits are poking fun at how terrible our aviation payscales are. ;)
YES, you read that correctly. Think hard about that before you make the big leap across the pond!
