I can't answer on domestic non-radar but oceanic (North Atlantic and Caribbean) I can give you a lot of details.
In the Carribean (WATRS airspace, all non-radar) deviations are a common occurrence. In this airspace over 90% of A/C are on a route... they typically advise ATC that there is wx say...
FlyChicaga - in radar position reports are not required... you mentioned that you progressed a fix that was a mandatory reporting point but were still in radar. From what I get from your post the next fix was non-radar... here is why that is.
In non-radar airspace you normally are still in some...
One thing I forgot to mention... I always ask for fuel remaining in TIME. Majority of the time pilots report remaining fuel in pounds, I have no idea what that means.
When declaring anything to do with fuel that is vital info for us...
I don't work in a tower but I'll still try and provide some info. We have an order of priorities as to how we handle A/C ... unfortunatley what you were looking for is low on the list when things are busy. You are on the ground so in that order you do not need immediate attention, the attention...
There is no clear cut answer for this... At the center our procedures are this, A/C declares minimum fuel, controller asks A/C their intentions/request and we alert the supervisor. Every A/C that declares is logged. Majority of the time nothing comes of it. It is a common occurence for...
I have had Lasik... so has a dozen people I work with. I also work with people that have terrible uncorrected vision. I have no idea what -5.50 for a prescription means
As far as I know we only have to have vision corrected to 20/20 ... If you check out the FAA website that lists...
I guess no one here flys into PHL or EWR ... we hold for them just about every day. IAD is another one... the center holds daily for them.
Happens more then you would think...
NYPD pilots are all officers first... and it's a bit political to get into the unit. A few of us (controllers) got a tour of their operation back in 01' ... VERY IMPRESSIVE ... the whole unit are officers from the pilots to mechanics. They were a very friendly group, probably one of the...
Recently went to FL on JetBlue... while getting off at TPA flight crew had a couple of Pax up in the cockpit, was chatting with them, even saw someone sitting in the Capt. seat while his buddy took a picture. Inflight I would doubt...
Air Traffic assistant (FAA 2154) is not a route to controller (FAA 2152). As posted above the FAA has only been hiring through the CTI program and former military... there are also some MARC students left but that program has been shut down and looks to be finished.
The AT-SAT test has...
Check out the following links first...

This is a great site set up by a former CTI student, he has tons of info and a message board. One of the best sites for info.

Here is info from Natca.
And some info from the FAA ~>...
The policy is... there is no real policy. As long as nothing is offensive is the official word. I work with a guy that has both arms sleeved, multiple piercings, and dresses like a skateboarder. No one cares... We have a bunch of girls who have ankle tatoos that are visible, nose rings...
Worked the day... where on earth was everyone flying today ??? Holy S*** ... we were busy... especially the oceanic ops, we were cranking from about 8 am till when I left @ 2:30 ... it was gonna stay busy for a few hours after I left.
The East cost centers have a bit of a different philosophy... with the traffic flows and sector layouts directs are not something that is easily done. Giving someone direct has A/C cutting sector boundries, warning areas, etc. It's a less a personal thing and more a procedure thing.
This is...
Yup... that is correct
You would be surprised... in a typical 8 hour shift I'll work 4-6 A/C @ FL430, about 4 or 5 times a week I'll work A/C at FL450 or FL470, with the holidays you see more above FL410 due to the increased traffic.
