Once, again..........
This is an example of poor management and the lack of leadership at most airlines.
A manager goes about business as usual and tells labor "I'll take a pay cut if you do first!" The same manager also tells workers "I take a pay cut every time the value of AMR stock goes...
duksrule,
I did it...you can too!
I retired a year ago from the ARNG, non-rated and am a medical reject from USAF UPT. Currently, I am a captain at Comair.
Since you are in the Tidewater area, look at the aero club at Quantico MCAS. I flew there for several years while in the Northern...
According to analysis of AMR, UAL and DAL, Morningstar published the market capitalization of the three holding companies.
AMR: $3.8 billion
DAL: $3.1 billion
UAL $525 million
This is as of late summer/early fall 2002.
AMR (American) and DAL (Delta) are in much better financial shape than...
The school does have to be approved. Each one is usually Part 141 because they already have FAA approval of the training syllabus. It is possible for a school to have Part 141 approval for portions of their training but not all. I taught a 141 school in Texas which did not have Part 141...
I apologize, in advance, if this is not 100% accurate.
In the late 1980s/early 1990s, a Jetstream International pilot reported for work under the influence. He called in, told scheduling he was running late because of a flat tire, and said he would be in for his next scheduled departure from...
All reserve components offer SGLI. If one elects to turn it down, he/she must do so in writing. The current maximum is $250,000. If one doesn't get paid for a drill period in a calendar month, the amount is recouped prom the next pay cycle.
Before I retired, my SGLI coverage cost $21...
Historically (sp?), when an airline opens a hub, a crew base soon follows. Which one will become the next crew base is anyone's guess at this point.
Consider this:
1. CMR will fly to SBA through SLC, effective 1 Jan 03.
2. American Eagle operates Delta Connection service from LAX to five...
Try First Penn Pacific.
My neighbor (retired Army National Guard) helped me find them. They don't hold flying against you. I was looking for something to replace SGLI. They did. I use their policy, ICW company paid insurance and it works well. They make their money if you choose a payment...
I'm not advocating a split from ALPA at this time!
The numbers I used were supplied by our former MEC chairman in early 1998. I attempted to adjust for (1) inflation, (2) the payscale then vs. the payscale now, and (3) the number of pilots at Comair and ASA.
I agree with your observation...
If you are to form an independent union, consider the start up costs.
I have posted on this several times. If a pilot group decides to start their own independent union, they need to consider the cost of starting up, then the monthly costs of running same.
I believe Comair would need a group...
I agree that ALPA does not represent the AA pilot group (APA). However, ALPA does have political motivation to assist the APA in their efforts...they want AA pilots back in ALPA. Assistance rendered by ALPA to APA will be indirect should it happen.
Based upon my experiences at AMR, I agree...
Viperguy,
It's been a long time, but an airline background check didn't expedite anything for me. I went to the group commander (who flew at the same airline) and he said it was no help at all.
Put some rounds down range for a retired guy! Fly safe!
Slim
Six of one...half a dozen of the other!
I do my own shirts (which my wife appreciates!) and take the trousers and jackets to the cleaners every other month.
I use Flying Cross shirts. I used those in the military and they lasted for better than 10 years. I also starch the sh1t out of them...
Bigbird,
Top pay rate for the CMR CR7 (70-seater) is $118/hour at the end of the current contract. My average line is 88 hours for pay/month. If I was there now, annual pay would be over $124,000.
At 88 credit hours per month, captains in their 15th year are making 100K on the CR7 now.
Gaithersburg, MD...1986...I'm in a Bonanza A36. I'm monitoring CTAF and announce entry to left downwind, landing 13. As I roll out, there'a a 172 in the right downwind for 31! I execute a hard right 90 degrees, getting out of the downwind. My passenger, also a pilot asks me what's going on...
There is a way to bid for GL (government leave).
After entering your bid, type // GL (dates required...ex: 05-10), then ENTER. If you have to do something last minute, fill out a leave request form, specify GL, then turn it into the chief pilots office for approval. I used both methods and...
Capitol (Capital?) Helicopters in the DC area in the early 1980s. They flew between DCA-IAD and, I believe, BWI. There was also talk of service between those airports and RIC/PHL. It lost money very rapidly and didn't last a year.
Good luck to those who try this!
Mangmntsuks,
If you want a "fast track" (for lack of a better phrase), you might look into Army aviation. Warrant Officer Flight Training is available through the National Guard. I call it fast track only because you may be able to secure a training slot faster through the Army Guard than...
The "pension plan contribution" goes into the same options a 401(k) participant has. It is also allocated the same way the monthly contribution is.
This is an improvement over what we previously had...NOTHING! However, IMO, this is one area we will seek to improve upon in the next contract.
