    true but "wrong" interview answers

AT most big corporations, the interviews often consist of a pre-scripted verbal questionnaire. Sometimes the applicant's answers are even written down verbatim. Interviewers are discouraged from deviating from an approved list of questions. This makes it hard for an interviewer to really "feel...

    Are you a left-wing wacko?

This is true, but the government coercing companies to raise wages makes the problem WORSE. In a down economy, it is difficult for a company to make ends meet. If you tell them they have to pay their employees more, they will lay employees off and require more from the employees that remain...

    EMB 170 today at CHQ

Some folks around here seem to think that a company should value your salary over their profit. That is a ridiculous proposition. Just because they have millions in the kitty at the end of the year doesn't mean the employees are entitled to split it amongst themselves. Do you realize that if you...

    Private Pilot Night restricted, IFR?

Reading the regs, I don't see any reason why your student could not get an instrument rating. I seem to recall that anyone could get a night restricted private certificate, but the most recent copy of the regs seems to indicate that only residents of the State of Alaska have this option...

    Pilots pay

Sorry chum, it is you who doesn't understand the free market. A free market requires that individual people and companies be free to make their own decisions about how much they are willing to pay or accept for goods and services. If any entity (such as a government or union) restricts this...

    An Observation...

You can't escape economics... You can try to "fight" for what you think you deserve, but the truth is as long as someone who is qualified to do your job is willing to do it for less than you are, no employer should be obligated to meet your salary demands.

    Pilots pay

I am currently an ALPA member on furlough from a regional airline. Perhaps I don't have the experience to debate the best crew hotels, but as an educated American, my economic views are as valid as yours. First of all, I never said anyone was "overpaid" I said that the wage was above what a...

    Pilots pay

You think a bus dirver makes 75K a year? Here are the Y2K stats, provided by the U.S. department of labor... Median annual earnings of airline pilots, copilots, and flight engineers were $110,940. Median annual earnings of commercial pilots were $43,300 Median hourly earnings of transit and...

    Pilots pay

First of all, most Department of Labor wage statistics use MEDIAN income instead of average. This explains why the number is so high. I think an average would be much lower. Secondly, this number includes the wages only of currently employed pilots. Just imagine how the median or average income...

    Dieterly

Is it me, or is this totally backwards. In my experience, it is the young liberal that has never had to work for anything. The conservative is typically the one who has a mortgage payment and a job. That is why he/she hates to see the government tax the hell out of everything. It is the person...

    Part 141 v.s. 61

I thought I'd toss in 2 more cents: There are fantastic part 61 schools and miserable part 141 schools. Many people will recommend a part 141 school because they are subjected to more scrutiny by the FAA and therefore are more likely to run a tight ship. The difference in time that it takes to...

I can't understand the low pay

Let me make a couple of statements that assume that you beleive in the principles of a capitalist economy: Everyone who has a job gets paid exactly what they are worth. With or without a union, every working person negotiates their salary. Employers and employees each have "chips" that they...

    Redundant Question>>>

Whether you realize it or not, you have a HUGE chip on your shoulder. In fact, I'm surprised you don't have more difficulty walking. If you have 1500 hours, turbine time and scads of multi, you are in great shape. If you don't get the job, it's because you interviewed poorly. If you interviewed...

    100hr, 50hr inspections required?

91.409(b) "Except as provided in paragraph (c) of this section, no person may operate an aircraft carrying any person (other than a crewmember) for hire, and no person may give flight instruction for hire in an aircraft which that person provides, unless within the preceding 100 hours of time...

3K for unlimited week of multi in CA?

I would do some investigating first. That seems like an awful good deal. If they are really offering a multi that cheap, it is probably booked wayyyyy out. You might not get much time in during your week.

How full are your airplanes? Why losses?

Many airlines have planes parked and pilots on furlough. It would only take a couple of months for an airline to add capacity if they could sell enough tickets. If one airline raises their fares, the rest will absorb the business that is loses. It a hurting market like air travel, raising your...

How full are your airplanes? Why losses?

The planes may be full, but there aren't as many planes flying and the tickets are dirt-cheap. I'm flying to PHX NYC round trip for 225. Then I'm flying NYC to Shannon (Ireland) for another $400. Who can make money at those fares? This is simple competition. American can't raise their rates...

    tight patterns

We get this same problem in Phoenix. There are a lot of "airline training" schools in the area and they all fly B-52 patterns. Tower even jokes about it. "Traffic to follow is a B-52 - excuse me - a Bonanza on a 1 mile base."

    What Glideslope to Land Numbers?

I agree with Andy. The dots represent degrees, not feet. So if you fly a dot low, you are flying a shallower path, but you are still flying to the blocks. Flying a dot low may allow you to more easily abandon the glideslope with the runway in sight .
