I find it humorous how you could say that I said that age 65 would never change. I made it my mission to fight age 65 for four years. I lost. And now that it's had a negative effect on your career - just as I warned it would - you're trying to put the exact opposite words in my mouth. Nice.

APA gave us the "B" scale, now they're against the age 65 rule. Guy's, this is a great deal for everybody, if you look down the road a few years. Think long term. As much as you might be against this right now, it probably will mean about a million dollars to you, if you consider you're 401k's or retirement plans and insurance coverage. I'll bet you a domestic beer that when you're 50 or 55, you'll be for this. I know you might not believe this now, but I think you will. Just consider the possibility.

It's a few years down the road. Show of hands on how many people think age 65's a great deal for everyone.

The age 65 rule will mean at least a billion dollars additional income for the pilot group, as a whole. Probably, a lot more. The airline fleet is projected to double by 2020, so there is plenty of opportunity for everyone. And Learherkjay, you're right, it means 5 more years of income. It's the ultimate "Win-Win" situation. Any other profession or industry would jump on this deal in a heart-beat. To be against this is putting your personal issues above the group, as a whole. If your a team-player, and are in reasonably good health, then you stand to gain a lot in terms of total income and increased retirement benefits. It's hard to look long-term when you're in you're thirties, but it looks like common sense is going to prevail to all of our benefit.

Win-Win???? Tell that to everyone who's been furloughed since 12 Dec 07.

Koko, thanks. I understand jonjuan and kwick's concerns. I remember the majority of FI posters salivating over the possibility of United going out of business in 2003/4.
That's why I'm posting the downside possibility to AirTran's pilots. They need to be cognizant of the fact that they may be on the cusp of negotiating themselves out of a job. If they negotiate themselves out of a job, they can't say that they weren't warned.

From the AT merger update today:

In addition, Dan Katz, SWAPA counsel Jeff Freund, mediator Dana Eischen, and Southwest Airlines Senior Labor Counsel Joe Harris conferred multiple times via teleconference during the week to discuss various mediation and arbitration schedules. During the exchanges, SWAPA pushed for a delay in the arbitration proceedings, which we opposed. Southwest management offered to extend by up to three months their previously stated desire to conclude the arbitration process by December 31. In the end, the arbitration board accepted our position that the following twelve hearing dates should remain in place: October 11-14, November 14-17, and December 13-16. The parties also agreed to reserve January 31 through February 2 for additional arbitration sessions, if necessary. Arbitration hearings will take place in Washington, with times and places to be determined.

I do not have a dog in this fight but that name would have me checking my six if I was SWA FO. If there is a more experienced smarter labor attorney around I have not heard of them.
