Without taking anything away from Hawaiian Airlines, you have to compare them with Southwest. They operate 33 aircraft whereas SWA operates over 500 aircraft. Hawaiian Airlines operates 190 flights a day and Southwest operates over 3200 flights a day. Also take into consideration where Hawaiian Airlines operates and where Southwest operates. It doesn't seem like a fair comparison. I would think that it is easier to operate an airline with only 33 aircraft and 190 flights a day than an airline with over 500 aircraft and 3200 flights a day.

I work for Hawaiian and no offense taken. You're right. The simple fact is, staying on time inter-island is a lot easier than dealing with flying between mainland cities. As far as our trans-pac and Intl flying go, mostly one flight a day with the A/C overnighting with the crew. So it makes it easier also. Although the matrix is not just about on time, we beat everyone including lost bags (again easier with our operation) and fewest complaints (we do have a much better inflight product than anyone else does to Hawaii)
To be honest, I really don't care that much about comparing ourselves to other airlinesl. Hawaiian is very good at what they do and it pays off. I think you guys are very good at what you do also. I think the not charging for bags is brilliant. It came home for me when I bought some tickets for myself and family on another airline and than got socked with bag charges. I don't buy many tickets for mainland travel. but if the price is the same and I can go on SWA, that is who I would use knowing I won't get charged a bag fee.

Dan,
Not so fast..... Hawaiian has ancient entertainment options (mostly a slightly disfunctional tv hanging from the ceiling), granted you can pay and rent a digi player or bring your own. Just a month ago, I flew to HNL on Delta and they had a 767 with every seat had it's own entertainment with at least 30 movies to choose from for free and a host of prerecorded TV/HBO programs to choose from, in addition to games galore to keep the kids entertained. Really a great experience and I hope that HAL's A330's have the same and I will enjoy that as well in the future.

I guess it's subjective, the inflight entertainment is better on a few of the other flights to Hawaii, but most would say the service is better or at least more "Hawaiian" on Hawaiian. Do you want good movies or good service? Also, there are a lot of 757's and 737's flying to Hawaii now. A lot of people really dislike them and the 737's in particular are not very well suited for flying to Hawaii. But you are right, we could use an upgraded entertainment package. Funny though, as a SWA employee you should know it's the service that stands out the most and what brings people back. Hawaiians service seems to be considered better by most.
As far as the A-330's go, it looks like they will mostly be used on flights in the 10 hour range after they are introduced on the HNL to LAX, the 767's will mostly continue going to the west coast.

Southwest is ranked #5 for "Quality", behind Airtran, Jetblue and NW.

Aeroflot had the #1 Brand for a while also.

LMAO! :laugh::laugh:
I wonder how many of the other top 25 companies had their employees pay for training?

Maybe they paid for their college, graduate school, MBA's or PhD's or the FedEx/UPS driver paid for his CDL.

Getting a little old scope.
By the way, how is the crusade to scope out RJ's going?
Doing anything about this? Working with your union? Any updates?

So the DALLAS news did a survey in DALLAS and came up with the top DALLAS brand name, SWA. Brilliant detective work...

Southwest Airlines Co. is flying high once again when it comes to brand recognition, according to a survey by American City Business Journals Inc., Charlotte-based parent company of the Pittsburgh Business Times.
ACBJ surveyed owners and top executives at small and midsized companies across the nation on their thoughts about a brand’s leadership, relevance, differentiation, value, momentum, ethics and customer service.
The survey looked at 272 brands across six categories — business services, finance and insurance, retail, technology, travel, and telecommunications.
Dallas-based Southwest (NYSE:LUV) took the No. 1 spot for the second consecutive year.
Godfrey Phillips, vice president for research at ACBJ, says the airline ranks No. 1 for several reasons: “One, it’s a value brand, which is critical; two, it was built by an entrepreneur and has an entrepreneurial attitude; and three, they don’t nickel-and-dime you.”

So much for your factual assessment.

Now, If Sen. Schumer can just pass a law that requires airlines to
provide basics, such as assigned seating, families and friends will
not be forced to sit apart from each other.

For some reason, about 100 million people/yr buy tickets without an assigned seat.

Maybe we should have one, big national airline and call it "Ameriflot". That way everything will be controlled, and they'll be no differences in "products". Will that make you happy?

4 legs good, 2 legs bad.
