Sleepy NWA pilots?

Captain is 53 yrs old, FO 54 yrs old.

Babies compared to a lot of the other folks at NWA, but definitely within that "afternoon nap" age range.

Did the NWA guys lack basic airmanship like I said the Colgan pilots did? No, they didn't. Look at the track on Flightaware.com----they never flew it upside down. It was perfect airmanship. As far as what happened over MSP, we don't know. But, we do know they never stalled the plane and put it into a tight spiral. BTW, their answer "in a heated discussion over company policies" was a CLASSIC!

Do you really have to ask that? Is ATIS the latest wind?

I typically have it in my mind what it is and listen to tower giving out winds as they clear people to land... its pretty rare for me to actually get a "wind check" unless the winds on the FMC are looking a lot different.

Exactly. I know that it's not the latest wind and I too just listen to tower giving wind checks. So the Boeing guys are the only ones that ask for a wind check? If not, just fly the plane. A little annoying when the wind is less than 10 kts. "good luck, we're all counting on you" gives me a good laugh. :laugh:

No, it qualifies as basic airmenship when you have high time. Atleast, if you had some PFTers in the cockpit they would have been so excited they would have stayed awake.

I would be very curious as to the situational awareness of everyone else such as the flight attendants. They were going to MSP so at least some of the passengers would have connections. We all know if there is a five minute delay they are already worried about those connections. I would think that even the most clueless of flight attendants would be wondering if they were holding because by now someone has complained they are not going to make that connection.

I will certainly not pass judgment since I was not on the flightdeck, but there are definitely a lot of things to make you go Hmm!

Imagine if the airplane had been equiped with air show and the pax had been watching .. or if NWA (Delta?) allowed pax to monitor ATC transmissions like United does.

If Northwest pilots were able to land in Brussels instead of Frankfurt on DC 10, anything is possible. They will be back flying. They did not go to sleep. Just heated discussions about how f-ked up everything is, including the seniority list.

Did ALPA get the NWA pilots back who landed at Ellsworth AFB? I believe not.
