But I gotta tell ya, the pilot groups in this country have gone out of their way to lower the compensation bar pretty significantly...

No reason to think a company won't lower bar either!
 
Anytime the liberals start whining about diversity, if you're a white male, you're going to be discriminated against. And it's legal. Consent decrees, affirmative action (aka racial preferences), quotas, different qualification tests, etc. And there ain't nothing you can do. And if you think it's bad now, if Obama gets elected (shudder) you ain't seen nothing yet.

Preferential hiring has been going on for years and is not going to die anytime soon so quite b****ing.
Any form of preferential hiring is wrong as all candidates should be hired purely on merit, right? This means no matter what your race, gender, creed, color or who you know/who your daddy is.

Ooops, the last one would involve over half the people on this board so get over it. Minorities account for less than 2% of the flight decks in this country so again, get over it.
 
50% of statistics are made up on the spot (yes, that was just made up). Show us data from a recognized and respected institution that states your 2% stat.

Once we have data that shows what percentage of active commercial pilots are women/minority, we can conclusively prove whether newhire classes represent the makeup of the hiring pool. Current seniority list bias is due to less women/minorities in past decades applying for these jobs.

As far as nepotism...get over it. It has existed since the dawn of man. Through networking you can do just as well as some kid who has daddy working for xyz airline.

Reading these postings made me a have a good laugh. What is funny when people start talking about affirmative action and preferential hiring they always end up at reverse discrimination. These same people are assuming every white male or white person that gets hired at a major airline is qualified. Come on gentlemen, white males have been getting hired on at the airlines utilizing the "good old boy program" without being "qualified" for years and GOOD FOR THEM. I know guys(white males) at major airlines without degrees but I don't see any of you guys bitching about them not being qualified. Here's the thing, I don't want ANYONE next to me in the cockpit who does not have the appropriate qualifications no matter what they look like but let's not have this debate and act as if just because the person is a white male occupying the seat he got that positon because he was qualified. A lot of these guys get hired because Daddy was/is a captain at XYZ Major airline. According to airlinepilotcentral.com Delta has 7,398 pilots and 1% are black. Let's say in all 5%(just a guess) are minority..........I think you are getting my point. Don't worry guys 5% isn't going to infringe at all on the country club. And by the way who the hell wants to work for Delta anyway.
 
Again, 92% of all statistics are made up on the spot (yes, that number was made up). How many active commercial pilots are women/minorities? I don't like having silver spoon, daddy's boy/girl hired without an ATP and only 1500TT. I agree they aren't qualified.

This isn't about the "country club". This is about having a larger percentage of newhires that are women/minorities than there is in the active commercial pilot pool. If the current hiring trends indicate that there is a larger percentage of women/minorities in newhire classes vs. percentage of active commercial pilots, that is clear discrimination. It takes a long time to homogenize a mixture that starts as white male as the airline profession is. The only way to create the "ideal" racial/gender balance is to introduce a larger portion of the other ingredient at a faster rate than you are adding the white male ingredient. In order to do that, you have to bias the amount of the secondary ingredients. Bias in other words can be described as discrimination.

If discrimination is so wrong...why does it feel so good for the affirmative action camp?

When you say they exactly whom are you talking about, minorities or the larger group that got in from other preferential hiring methods. If you want to do away with preferential hiring then do away with ALL of it. The who you know in HR or on-line, gone. Daddy is a check airman, gone. For years if you weren't military your chances were cut less than half of getting on. (Note: not a swip at military personel just making a point).

You can't say the part of preferential hiring that hurts me sucks but the part that works for me is great. If you want to be judged purely on merits then do that and that ONLY or get off your soap box.

I'll tell you what...If I ever start an airline I will hire whoever I damn well please.

You don't like it? Tough. Go start your own company and you can hire who you want...but don't tell me or anyone else who we have to hire. Got it? Good.

The more government meddles in our lives the worse off we are. The founding fathers must be rolling in their graves right now. Funny thing is...they warned us.
