Far enough politics is politics sometimes. Just like John McCain hanging with Jerry Falwell. Trust me though types like Al and Jesse are p'od at Obama for not falling at their feet...

Trust me. It's just as frustrating for minorities that have resumes consisting of the average qualifications watch this practice as well. We've all worked hard/ are working hard to get where we want to be and nobody likes to feel "shorted". This practice goes down in just about every field imaginable (I"m not condoning it). Intern's, legacies, someone that gave Kit Darby a couple hundred dollars, etc, etc. We can all sit around and say this is wrong but it won't do anything to help you reach your career goals. If anything it will just make you more bitter/pissed and when you are sitting in that interview room with 5 minorities of which you don't know the background of, it might end up distracting you on your big day.Summer 07, class of 28, 10 minorities, 6 women, 2 Hispanics, one asian, and one black. The 18 whities had at least 1000 PIC turbine everyone of them, out of the 10 minorities, 5 of them had no PIC, sic turbo prop/jet. Also 2 of the minorities did not have an ATP, they figure they would get it when DAL types them....
DAL is making a huge effort to diversify their workforce. Unfortunately, once in a while they hire one who has no business being here. SIC J32, 1700TT, going to the ER, never seen an FMS, never flown a jet...... and then she wonders why is it so hard????????
Consent decrees, affirmative action (aka racial preferences), quotas, different qualification tests, etc. And there ain't nothing you can do. And if you think it's bad now, if Obama gets elected (shudder) you ain't seen nothing yet.
Anytime the liberals start whining about diversity, if you're a white male, you're going to be discriminated against. And it's legal. Consent decrees, affirmative action (aka racial preferences), quotas, different qualification tests, etc. And there ain't nothing you can do. And if you think it's bad now, if Obama gets elected (shudder) you ain't seen nothing yet.
In ATL, most of the Delta pilots you see are Caucasian male. Do you really think Delta only hires the 'qualified'? Maybe 'qualified caucasian male'.
I don't mean to offend anyone, and I am sorry if I did. My friend who got hired there last year said they had 33 people in a class, and only one of them had darker-skin color...maybe hispanic.
My other friend who actually works there, and who is African said that is one thing you will notice in the pilot group.....very little minority pilots.
Delta looks for a certain image. If you don't fit their image of a pilot, you won't get hired regardless of your experience level. You can deny that all you want. Just look around. Very sad but true.
So .1% of DAL pilots are black. What is the percentage of women and other minority pilots?
Civil rights coalition: Delta needs to boost diversity
No, it's just discrimination..period. there is no reverse discrimination...., otherwise it is reverse discrimination.
What a load of BS... After 11 years of military service, I only knew of only three black pilots... There were more woman pilots but not one was of color... I guess uncle sam is a bigot as well...
The real question, is how many professional pilots of color exist for the percentage of white pilots, women pilots, spanish pilots... I would guess that the hiring percentages are right on...
I too know a guy from Africa, he flies for JetBlue, but he is also as white (in color) as me.
Lear, are you sure, after all, they did hire "the General" Well, I guess occasionally one falls through the cracks. lol
