MEM is strictly DC-9 and A320.

ANC flies to 7 cities in the US (9 seasonally), and 8 cities (discounting CRAF) internationally.

Some New Hires will go to the A320 in Feb. Instructors have been asked to change our offline requests to cover the ramped-up training.

Not to mention ANOTHER request for DC-9 CA IPs. I think this is the 2nd or 3rd notice in 6 months, and one of those was extended by 60 days because they didn't get enough people.

Note that this MIGHT be because the FO IP program didn't work out as well as they'd hoped, or so I've heard. Don't know the details.

Have him contact "Troy" at Flight Ops HR. He can call Crew Planning (the number is in his FOM) and ask to be transfered to Troy. Troy will send him an e-mail with a link to your online app.

I saw Dom yesterday at the Mall of America (). He said there is too much movement to keep the IP ranks on the DC-9 "stabilized". We're in the same boat, so there's a posting for A320 IP's too.

The demise of the FO IP program is good for us. More captain positions is a good thing.

Off topic, but just curious if anyone has recieved the phone call that dose not have a four year degree(in the process of finishing)... I feel otherw competitive with 7500 tt and 1600 pic 121?

I am in the same boat bro, the app clearly states High school diploma or equivalent, we'll see.....
Anyone been called with less than a 4 year degree?

I am enrolled in Thomas Edison State College, under the "Light Bulb" Major, minor in electricity.

no, seriously....

Agree!

A whole bunch of first time bidders jumped onto the DC-9 CA pref up for March. I don't know if it's just the timing for "post holiday training", people wanting to be a$$hole captains for a change, instead of listening to one, or if they just heard that life isn't THAT terrible on the -9 after all.

Who knows, but like you said more captains = better.

I asked about this for a buddy of mine on Friday and the word is that right now they are only calling people with at least a Bachelor's Degree. He said that could change at some point, but for the foreseeable future the degree is required to be competitive.

Occam,

in regards to the raw score and flight time to flying years ratio formula, what about in my situation having 320 time and 747 time, is that factored in? I am digging now, since I asked about the degree thing, now I feel screwed.
I know my ratio to time/flt time, is probably low because I've chosen to upgrade or go to a new company and been on reserve alot, has caused low flight times per year, thus a low average?

sorry man, for these endless type questions.

Cheers, hopes this helps someone else too. Good luck everyone!!

Hi Guam,

I don't know how much Occam can tell you about the grid criteria, if he even knows. NWA has traditionally been VERY picky about releasing any info about their selection/interview policies, and they even make interviewees sign non-disclosure forms.

What I can tell you from what I've seen in the past (looking at the guys hired), at least back in the late 90's, is that "the grid" favored someone with college and flying tons of time/yr. Turbine PIC time was less of a factor than at other outfits.

The ideal candidate was a person who got their commerical ticket and flew 7-8 years at 80-85 hrs/mo (regionals, cargo, whatever). Age wasn't an issue, just as long as you banked fat hours after you got your ticket.

PIC or no, you were looking pretty good for NWA if you did this. If you DID have some turbine PIC time, then you went to the top of the heap IF the other boxes were checked, but even if you didn't, chances are you'd get the call anyway.

Right or wrong, I know that college is a VERY big deal for NWA. I had a bud who had GOBS of DC-9 time PIC, squeeky clean record, from the midwest and had been flying a TON since he was 18. No go....college was the deal breaker.

Nu, very nice post, not in my favor but hey, oh well.
thanks

G

ps, so even if I received my BA next week, I wouldn't have a chance to update it, I am already scored without it. right?

Heyas Guam,

I dunno. The reason they do it they way they do is to discourage the "I got 10 more hours of actual/PIC/whatever and I want to update" anal retentive types from pestering them every 3 days.

As far as college, and since it IS such a big deal, I might try to find some method of updating that. Maybe a potential path would be to have the NWA guy who's recommending (if any) you send a email saying something to the effect of "hey, my buddy is SUPER interested, and hey, he just got his degree". You never know, and you can't win if you don't play.

If you are at all interested in NWA, and it sounds like you are, I'd get the degree ASAP.
