A friend of mine, before he was furloughed from UAL, shortly after 9/11 when all the rules were changing, and the TSA was getting its rocks off dump searching every crew member, was flying out of a New England airport on the first flight of the day, this captain had just had it dealing with the dip$hits, and decided to screw em back.

This captain took a nasty pair of ripped and faded skivvies, tighty-whiteys, and spread inside them, a Baby Ruth bar, and laid it ontop in his roll-aboard.

TSA ******************************bag asks him to dump his bag going thru one day (in full uniform of course, since he is working the flight), and opens it it - displaying the skivvies for all to see. Captain is just staring straight forward (my friend said he could play some killer Poker), TSA ******************************bag sees the skivvies, decides not to go any farther, zips his bag closed, and sends him on his way.

They laughed all the way to Chicago. My friend flew with this captain the entire month, and loved it.
 
Embarrassment is a formidable weapon. Let’s find a news station and run a story on wasting our money and resources. We have all been through back ground checks and through security. Since I have access to the flight controls I really don’t ……..never mind I won’t even say it. So this is a complete waste of our tax dollars and security resources.
 
this is a joke....there's no way he was followed to the damn bathroom.

I will continue to change in the stalls. A uniform that anyone can buy should not be the determining factor, a company ID and license are.
 
A lot of airports do not even require that you be in uniform to pass through security. I've seen pilots and FAs go through all the time in regular clothes with the liquids, whether they are non-reving or deadheading.
 
The TSA only affects your life if you let them. It's a small amount of control freaks and cry babies who get all worked up over a very simple process that only takes 1 minute out of your day. Play the game and play by the rules and just move on. Amazing how many pilots let this get to them. If you can't get thru TSA without getting all hot and bothered than thats your problem.

When ignorant thugs acting under color of state authority create their own "rules" and "procedures" in the name of "safety" you should be worried.

Like the bumper sticker says, If you aren't outraged, You haven't been paying attention.
 
Sounds like a wise use of time and resources by TSA.
They probably had to close another screening lane at the terminal to
pick on the XJ crews, but who cares? Long lines at security are totally
justified as long as full size tubes of tooth paste are confiscated from
commuting crewmembers.

I'm glad I don't commute any more. But, this madness has to stop.
Time to pick up the phone and call the union.

It is with deep regret that I must agree with this statement. The TSA MUST have checks and balances to assure that they focus of the threat, not innocent passengers and crew. There are obviously too many of them if they have enough time to engage in such activities.

VPS - 24 June at 1735CT, pull the tapes and then issue me your apology...

WHY:
I did antagonize them with a "are you flipping serious" I'll change right here (and did) and asked them to re run the bag and liquids as I would be in uniform by the time the bag came across the belt again. As a get even TSA power move - they did everything in their power to delay me getting through security the second time by asking a family of four for DRIVERS LICENSES and SOCIAL SECURITY CARDS or PASSPORTS for the toddlers in the bunch ahead of me.

These guys wanted me to miss that last flight of the day, and if you pull the records the flight was fortunately delayed over 25 minutes. They almost got me to miss my commute...almost.

TSA did nothing technically wrong, just enforced a stupid policy to the point of threatening me with going to Jail and a mandatory fine and court appearance. I don't hold them in the wrong here, and kind of support the supervisor's comment that he doesn't create the regulations but he does do a good job of enforcing them - followed quickly by "you are going to jail" but whatever there.....

Fine... you don't have to pay attention to my warning. I was just trying to help, and possibly get the pilots to speak to their unions to fix the blanket policy of screening crew members without cause.

Didn't the TSA loose like 1,400 uniforms a while back? I'm positive I saw something about that.

I am not against the proposal ALPA was talking about - to use some sort of iris scan / whatever to identify you. Then away you go, with your finger in the air to every TSA lackee.

They could have one at every exit to the secure areas. Would be a BIG help.
 
It's about time for a nation wide sickout, shut down all the airlines untill we start being treated as part of the solution instead of part of the problem.

I don't know about THAT, but some kind of informational video would be nice.
Hey.. this is what a pilot's life is like. They shouldn't have to take their shoes off.. See: Their shoes protect their feet from dirty rudder pedals.
Now THOSE will crash an airplane if you don't have a trained professional with nice shoes on working them properly.
 
Like many of you, I have been in this industry since before 9/11. To be honest with you I have only had one very negative encounter with a TSA agent. The agent in AZO gave me a hard time about having a package of batteries in my flight case which went with my battery powered ANR headset. It took a bit of explaining as to why I had them, and the "approval" of a supervisor to take them with me.

That was over three years ago now.

Sure, I have seen my share of idiocy from these guys (like the one who made a woman put her lipstick in a ziploc bag only to tell her she could take it right back out when she left checkpoint - she had it in the bag for about 10 seconds - she put it in the bag he gave her - he said okay - then she proceeded to take it right back out!)

I guess put me in in the category of those who just chose not to get all worked up. It is one minute of my time, and I have had to go through security ever since I started in this industry. To me the stupid things these guys do at times is more like comic relief for me, not something to get angry about. I always picture the SNL TSA training skit and go through with a smirk on my face.
 
that's all well and good, but if we all had that attitude, they would continue to chip away at our rights while we don't get worked up.

20 years from now we will say,

"Hey Bob, remember when we could go through the checkpoint with our clothes on? those were the days."

"Sure do Bill, hey Bob have you had a bowel movement today?"

"Nope, I bet the agent gets some poo on his glove heh heh heh"

"heh heh yep.. screw em"

I don't dispute that the TSA is a joke and they have a lot of stupid rules. I just choose to not let it bother me because it's a lose-lose deal. I leave the check point in a good mood and I don't make an a$$ out of myself in the process. Just because I live in base doesn't mean I don't deal with them. I go thru every time I go to work and after RON's and I non-rev a bunch all over so I have had my fair share of dealings with TSA. Oh...and I also commuted for 8 months. It's your choice on wheather or not you want to look like a jerk and leave the check point all worked up. I grin and bear the process and I even make some small talk and joke around with the screeners. Try it some time. Makes life easier. Again....I'm not saying I agree with TSA...rather...I just know it's a lose-lose for me to go against their game plan. I will let you wage the war Mr. Rogers. good luck.
 
The reason TSA inspectors can get guns and knives through screening is because TSA mgmt is distracting its own inspectors with liquids, zip-lock bags and commuters. When will they learn?
 
These morons should worry more about the passengers coming thru security then harassing crew members who just want to get comfortable!!!! But in all honesty, Im not the least bit surprised by this. Just enforces my opinion on these jerkoffs!!
 
ALPA needs to be more vocal about what a bunch of BS all of these security procedures are, and what a waste of government time and money. Piggybacking! how the F can this still be an issue. Your local subway station does more to keep out free-riders than the airports do to keep the secure area "secure"

So let me get this straight- TSA agents are following pilots around the airport and into the bathroom to see if you change clothes?

OK, let's have some fun with this. On your next 3 hour "airport appreciation" break, leave the crew room and go wander around the airport. When you see the Gestapo following you, lead them on a wild goose chase. Enter a bathroom, wash your face, then leave. Repeat with every bathroom on the concourse. Go to the next concourse. Repeat. Get a USA today. Enter a stall, sit and read for a half hour. If they're still following you, then repeat from the beginning.

Enough pilots do this and it will will last a week before they give up.

Morons. It's funny that they think they're smarter than us. Let's screw with them.
 
F#cking idiots! Smoke and mirrors. Instead of focusing on the real threat, TSA continues to pick on flight crews.....simply amazing.
 
I spoke to a TSA agent the other day, and asked him about this very thing. I said "I've heard that TSA has followed people to bathroom" etc etc...

He said: "Hey, as far as I personally am concerned, I don't care what you guys do once you get through security, but you are breaking the rules, so it's wrong".

me: "You realize that anyone can buy this uniform on the internet with no credentials, so what is the significance?"

him: "But you can't buy THIS on the internet" (points to my ID)

me: "That is exactly my point, so what is the difference if I wear my ID with a t-shirt and blue jeans because the ID is the important thing."

him: "But it's against the rules!!!"

me: "OH, OK, NOW I get it!" *

*a note of sarcasm

I knew that was exactly where the argument was going to go, but what can you do. This guy gets in trouble if he does not enforce the rules, and he likes the position of being a bureaucrat - stamp the form and move on, no thought involved. I asked him if there was a method in place for him to point out strange inconsistencies with policies and all I got was a blank stare. I guess that means no. Maybe that's by design with this guy at the helm. Unfortunately the system attracts those types.
