Sounds to me like you work in a place where they are not so bad. It varies from airport to airport. If you had to put up with some of this crap you'd be singing a different song Mr. Fat Dumb and Happy living in your base.

I don't dispute that the TSA is a joke and they have a lot of stupid rules. I just choose to not let it bother me because it's a lose-lose deal. I leave the check point in a good mood and I don't make an a$$ out of myself in the process. Just because I live in base doesn't mean I don't deal with them. I go thru every time I go to work and after RON's and I non-rev a bunch all over so I have had my fair share of dealings with TSA. Oh...and I also commuted for 8 months. It's your choice on wheather or not you want to look like a jerk and leave the check point all worked up. I grin and bear the process and I even make some small talk and joke around with the screeners. Try it some time. Makes life easier. Again....I'm not saying I agree with TSA...rather...I just know it's a lose-lose for me to go against their game plan. I will let you wage the war Mr. Rogers. good luck.

The reason TSA inspectors can get guns and knives through screening is because TSA mgmt is distracting its own inspectors with liquids, zip-lock bags and commuters. When will they learn?

ALPA needs to be more vocal about what a bunch of BS all of these security procedures are, and what a waste of government time and money. Piggybacking! how the F can this still be an issue. Your local subway station does more to keep out free-riders than the airports do to keep the secure area "secure"

So let me get this straight- TSA agents are following pilots around the airport and into the bathroom to see if you change clothes?

OK, let's have some fun with this. On your next 3 hour "airport appreciation" break, leave the crew room and go wander around the airport. When you see the Gestapo following you, lead them on a wild goose chase. Enter a bathroom, wash your face, then leave. Repeat with every bathroom on the concourse. Go to the next concourse. Repeat. Get a USA today. Enter a stall, sit and read for a half hour. If they're still following you, then repeat from the beginning.

Enough pilots do this and it will will last a week before they give up.

Morons. It's funny that they think they're smarter than us. Let's screw with them.

I spoke to a TSA agent the other day, and asked him about this very thing. I said "I've heard that TSA has followed people to bathroom" etc etc...

He said: "Hey, as far as I personally am concerned, I don't care what you guys do once you get through security, but you are breaking the rules, so it's wrong".

me: "You realize that anyone can buy this uniform on the internet with no credentials, so what is the significance?"

him: "But you can't buy THIS on the internet" (points to my ID)

me: "That is exactly my point, so what is the difference if I wear my ID with a t-shirt and blue jeans because the ID is the important thing."

him: "But it's against the rules!!!"

me: "OH, OK, NOW I get it!" *

I knew that was exactly where the argument was going to go, but what can you do. This guy gets in trouble if he does not enforce the rules, and he likes the position of being a bureaucrat - stamp the form and move on, no thought involved. I asked him if there was a method in place for him to point out strange inconsistencies with policies and all I got was a blank stare. I guess that means no. Maybe that's by design with this guy at the helm. Unfortunately the system attracts those types.
