Hey GL,
You are really starting to make me ticked off. While I fully agree that the majors should hold scope tight (and tighten if able) you really have no clue about things. You may be a "widebody" guy, but you are disconnected from the process at this point. The 76 seaters prolonged the regional ranks. Whether a guy stays or goes, it's not for you to judge. I have grown up in an "airline world" and can tell you that many of the guys that I knew growing up are miserable human beings just to be at a "major". People don't necessarily want to "give up" their families for a "major". I'm 26, and while I would love to go somewhere else, passenger carries don't make the list. If I get to spend time with my family, and make a livable salary, I am a happy man. Eventually, I will apply to the likes of FDX, but until then... Every moment with my family (debt free) is worth the world.
Feel free to tell me I don't know what I am missing. I grew up in MEM (be a rocket scientist and figure out why) and fully understand there are other carriers that pay better. Getting a single phone call from a far part of the world at 4am to wish me a "happy birthday" wasn't worth the $200+ an hour that supported the family. If nothing else, family is everything, and nobody can judge that.
You can pound sand. Not everyone wants to be like you. You even sound miserable. Now boast about your layover... I will be in the bed with my wife. Best layover ever. That's a boast that I am proud of.
I can pound sand? Wow. Who says you have to be on the other side of the World if you don't want to? You can always choose to fly DOM or INTL, unless you go to Kalitta or Southern Air. You do whatever makes you happy, but my whole point is the guys who could have flowed up might have made a mistake. Try not to get all upset. Stay with your family and do what is best, but some decisions are really important, and that is the point.
Bye Bye--General Lee
