I think peoples' problem with OBAP isn't it's work, but its principle. Kind of like the United Negro College Fund. Why is one race given special programs and scholarships when others aren't?

If an association for White American-Italian Pilots (WAP) was founded and promoted scholarships only white Italians could get, I'm sure Jesse and Al would be raising hell. It's a double standard. This is the ill will I think a lot of people have with OBAP.

Now the basic issue of educating the inner city kids about opportunities... that's a good thing. ALPA should be involved with it as well as OBAP. Everyone should.

Uh, maybe because there's a couple hundred years of history of racism? There's no "White Pilot's Association" because there's no need for one.

Dont respond to this ******************************bag. He said in an earlier post that he fears obama getting elected and taking advantage of black power to control the white population. This guy is a racist.

John,

Make sure you dont throw in colors with your white hood. I recommend washing your white costume together with your uniform with clorox bleach.

A lot in life has to do with having good examples to follow. Regardless of race, a lot of kids are getting raised these days in single parent households. These kids do not receive the benefit of seeing how both parents "made it" in this World.

Big Brothers / Big Sisters, OBAP, WIA, any of these organizations that help kids, deserve credit for what they are doing. I've met a couple of very good people who benefitted. It is just about helping out your neghbor and being charitable - qualities that are virtues.

Also - our profession needs more positive PR. There are not that many "Pilot" drawings on the aspirational walls of third grade classrooms any more.

Go place your vote for Huckabe or Romney. Your so stupid on so many levels I can't even respond to your posts.

My vote for Hillary keeps meaning more the more you talk.

If you want to tell someone they are stupid, then make it sound a bit more intelligent:

You're so stupid...

Thanks for some very positive comments so far from most of the people on this thread. My words this morning were a little harsh but definitely applicable to Clueless types like Pennekamp and 406. My god I hope you two never procreate!!

My life was changed by a pilot who took some time to point me in the right direction and I think these Kids would benefit greatly from a presentation.

Wiskey Driver and D-Bo, I will follow up with both of you as soon as I can and hopefully we can make this work. Thanks a million.

Racism is racism. Organizations such as OBAP feel it is acceptable to have a race-based agenda because their constituents have historically been persecuted. I, and others, disagree. If this society is to progress to one of color-blindness (the ideal as espoused by MLK) then organizations that are race-based continue to perpetuate racism. Taking the emotion out of this touchy subject, I fail to see how anyone can argue this important point. Attempting to "right" a wrong with another wrong (affirmative action) is wrong, IMO.

The Organization of Black Airline Pilots is clearly a group of individuals identified by their race. The same goes for the Congressional Black Caucus (promotes causes of interest in the black community), the United Negro College Fund (ostensibly funds gathered benefit only blacks), the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (again the organization's title appears self-explanatory).

I do not support any organization which attempts to divide our society based on race, gender or sexual orientation. For this reason, I am also not a proponent of Women In Aviation.

If not now, then when exactly do we internalize the teachings of great civil rights leaders and start treating (judging) each other by the content of one's character rather than the color of one's skin? The same question goes for gender?

So I guess I shouldn't start up OCRAP?

I'll call it the Organization of Conservative Republican Airline Pilots. Might help some of my other bro's get jobs...
