It works out to about $880/month in per diem (non-taxable). Your base is whatever you are assigned by crew planning. So far I don't think anyone has been assigned to MSP, so everyone has been eligible for per diem/hotel/positive space home on weekends. Also, if you live within 2 hours of the msp you are not eligible either.

All newhires are assigned DTW, MEM, or ANC right away (this could change) so everyone is getting per diem. They positive space you home on weekends, so you are only accumulating per diem 5 days a week. $1.85/hr times 5 days a week is something near $222 a week, or $888 a month.

I realize that this question has been asked before, but things change quickly, so I thought I'd ask again..
When one is hired, is there ANYONE being assigned the Airbus? Also, if one gets the Dc-9 how long does it usually take to bid into the Bus?
I am OLD (43) am I correct that class seniority is based on age? Sorry for all the quesitons.
I know, several people are going to chime in, saying that with the merger my question is mute as I'll be assigned a 175....

Just to answer some quick questions:

Seniority in class is done by age.

No newhires in the 'bus quite yet

You can bid off right away, but you will STILL be trained for your original position, and will probably be required to fly that position until your next A/C class (bids are 4 months in advance).

If you want the 'bus, you can probably hold it in a month or two if reserve and DTW/MEM is OK, maybe a month longer for MSP.

A fair number of ANC 747 SO slots are opening up due to age 60+ SOs bidding back and the opening of the MSP 747 base, and MOST new hires (2/3s) are bidding out right away, soooo, plan accordingly (IE watch reruns of "Northern Exposure") .

I was in class in Mid November and a few in my class just got awarded the Airbus. This is in the May APA.

Not exactly immediate. As of right now it is about 2 to 3 months till you can hold the most junior reserve slot in DTW. Add on the two month training cycle, and you are 4 to 5 months from sitting in the plane. That means they get at least 2 months of use out of you on the 9. we are so short on the 9 that this is necessary.

I agree with the previous posts about the SO slots in ANC. The 65 rule has left them short as well as the opening of MSP. A new hire is alreday holding a block in ANC on the panel (Dec 31 hire). Future classes will have more and more SO slots til people stop bidding out (they train 5 guys to get one to stay). All in all, the system sucks for the company, but for the pilots it is a blessing. If you don't like what they give you, just wait a couple of months and it will change.

3 - 747 ANC SO

2 SO slots went most junior. 1 mid seniority pilot bid the slot.

Note: There were supposed to be 14 in class and if there were, then that would have been another ANC SO 747 slot.

I just got the call yesterday! Accepted a class date of 21 April. HR says 16-20 per class. Mesaba guys are starting to come up. They still want to hire 350 total by the end of the year. Asked to rank dc9 MEM, DTW or -200 ANC.

That must be an old picture. There's too much molding left around the windows. If it were a current pic, there would be a bunch of peeling molding and that lovely yellow glue/insulation exposed! Still a lot of fun though. Just not 5 legs a day fun. Cheers...
