Fellow Navy flightcrew,
Does anyone have any information on the HH-60H that crashed at NAS Fallon on the 7th of May? A former squadronmate of mine from HS-14 days, AW1 William "Bill" Weatherford was among the five crewmembers that were killed. I was very sad to read of this mishap, because I remember Bill as a very competent aircrewman, strong rescue swimmer and very diligent in completing his collateral duties as well. Fallon has not been a kind place to the Navy H-60 community over the years, and the training environment is very demanding. However, it's the nature of training for combat.

Regards,

ex-Navy Rotorhead

I was in Fallon back in 98 with HS-3 and we had to do an early morning SAR because a VX-1 60F hit some power lines. Every time I have been there, somebody has lost a bird. RIP.

I was in the FRS with the JO on the flight, Rich. We were both legal officers at the same time right next door to each other (HS-7/15) so we talked all the time and would borrow uniform items from each other. The CO rushed the chart study and he didn't mark all the wires on the chart. My ex was friends with a crewman's wife who said her husband and the one of that flight that jumped out, had made a pact that if they were low level and were gonna go down, that they would jump out. He was found about a half mile from the crash site where there was nothing left of the crew but charred remains. RIP
