I think the ATR is just like the Caravan. A well thought out design that just doesn't work in all conditions and should be de-certified until ATR/Cessna owns up to their/our problems.
Since we had a pretty good ATR icing upset a couple of days ago
(the icing boogyman is still there) we are now required to inspect the tail whenever in ground icing conditions ie below 5 C. Since that is nearly impossible to do, we'll be going thru a ton of deice fluid and delays. The Fokker may have been old, slow and loud but at least it was a proven and solid design.

I'll take an F anyday of the week, especially on a nasty night in KTN.
As a side note, its kind of cool talking to older guys in the industry who flew them in their heyday. They are always impressed that they are still working.

it is cool talking or should i say yelling at the older guys who flew them back in the day and how they thought that the f was the most modern aircraft of the time. i am for letting the atr go and getting something with a heated leading edge and no props.

Pilot unhappiness still going on.....

What's the problem over there now??? There is always something and no matter where you go there will always be something. Just hang in there til something better comes along that gives you more of a challenge and jump on it. To sit back and complain won't fix the problem. If you really want to know how Empire is doing contact John in Midland~ he has a contact at Fedex named Bart who is in charge of all the "Feeder Outfits", one conversation with him and your eyes will be open...trust me I flew in MAF for over 2 years 2001-2003ish, I got a lot of inside scopeage that no one else knew about all the feeders Baron, MAC, Empire, Corporate Air etc.... For those of you that thinks AFW or any other new bases will be open for a while I got some condos I would like to sell on the Malibu coast. Just get your time and be happy and move on..It's ok no one will be angry....Peace and fly safe.

wouldn't let him have a few days off due to pregnacy wtf. soon they will not give us time off if we lost a leg in a unfortunate smelting accident.

I just sent them a resume.. I guess if they call me, I'll just recall this story and tell them "thanks, but no thanks"

that sucks.

I'm not alone when i say that i would not recommend any friends of mine to work there. Most if not all are trying to leave fast! A friend of mine last week said that if offered a upgrade he will turn it down and leave as soon as his illegal contract is up in a few months.

what i think is strange is that everyone says they have an illegal contract but yet no one has been able to prove this and have it changed. i do agree that it is wrong and looks suspicously illegal but all i hear or read is that it is wrong and blah blah, why don't those who have suffered this injustice get together or go at it alone and do something about it, especailly if you don't work there anymore. it is not hard to do the research yourself. you will be surprised at what you might find not only with the contracts but with the handbook as well. i decided a while ago to put my efforts into trying to improve life for me rather that complaining all the time, not to say that i still don't do a little of the later.

as for the quoted comment by me posted by v70t5 if you read farther on that was rebutted as a rumor and never happened so do not make your decision on things posted here.

I missed that part, sorry if I jumped to a conclusion.. you work there, are you happy? Is it possible to commute their schedule on the ATR?

Thanks

I wouldn't plan on commuting-the schedules are pretty tough to do that with in my opinion for the most part. Empire has been alright to me, but I have seen them do some goofy things to some of my crewmates. They are the best company that I have worked for in aviation, but I only worked as a CFI and part 135 prior to this. If you do decide to come here, just make sure that you plan on paying out your contract if you quit before it is up and make sure that you fully understand pay and benefits. But Thunderworm may have a different take on all this then I do. As far as that lion of zion goes, there are probably a few people that unhappy here, but I think he may be on the extreme end of unhappiness.

Your profile leads me to think you worked at more than 135's and CFI jobs, or is that a method you use to keep the ID police off your back! ;)

Thanks for the info man, the more I learn, the more I decide it's not for me..

I'll let them know why too if/when they contact me.

....never mind. I'm tired of pilots complaining all day long about their working conditions but for some reason everything is roses when they post. I don't understand the logic. Yeah, its great here, we're paid well with lots of family time. You'd be a fool to go any where else. The contracts are fair and should be signed. Come on over and be stuck for 2 years so you can see for yourself. Yippee!!! Just ask the new hire F/O that walked out of training. I'm sure he was overjoyed.

i agree with what i said i am just sick of myself saying this when others don't see it that way and just go on as if life is peachy. i thought that maybe i would try something else to see if we as a group could calm downa little. this weekend i witnessed a rumor get out of hand and get people upset before the truth was found out. hopeing this new approach will allow others to make the decision for themselves and not base too much on what is said here. with this said at least those who are researching this company can see that there is definetly something wrong and should really think twice when there is a lot of other better companies out there.

bling if you typed out what i wrote i give you props for the consistancy with my spelling and grammer errors. i hold the internet for my bad typing skills.

Which rumor are you talking about? I agree, new approachs are good but distorting the truth by anyone is never benificial. How was the snowboarding?

Seems like its worse now than ever over there with the pilots not speaking to the company anymore Are you guys really going ALPA? Good for you if you are.

how do you know these things when you don't work there or are you just stirring the pot.

wow soon cats and dogs will be living together.. mass histeria. sombody just won a steak dinner.

Yep the talks have stopped and the group is moving in another direction.

I'm confused, why are you saying this. I understand Randy has responded to the list of demands the pilots sent it sent in. Many have already been address in the handbook. The Salary survey is going on as this moment. So what am I missing?

I've asked Dan Perich in Dispatch to join this board or post in your open forum and answer any questions you may have on stuff. Especially stuff in the handbook, RX, awarding of upgrades/bases, etc. I've never know him to bull ******************** you or anyone else. If he can give you an answer he will. He'll give you the truth if he knows it and maybe expalin things that you aren't getting answers from others on. If your really interested in an open discusion with the facts then I'm sure he'd be glad to talk. Many pilots call him on a regular basis and he explains things to them. If you want to really and try an improve on the moral talk to him and see whay he has to say. All to often things get out of hand based on 1/2 truths or rumors.

What do you say?

I say you have completely missed the point. Randy responded with a flat "no" across the board signaling the end of talks. And don't forget that he only responded after the "U" word was over heard being used.

Although Dan is a great, long term employee, I'm not sure what a dispatcher has to do with company policy? Especially since he is not involved in the official EPG/Management communication process.
Our 64 EPG members (more every day) have worked very hard to open a positive communication channel that was unfortunately ignored by management. You can only hang on the line for so long before you hang up.

You have some of the most dedicated and hard working pilots I've ever known giving our customer an awesome product. In return all we ask for is a up-to-date, non-hostile work environment. There is not one pilot on our ramp that doesn't deserve that. We want to be treated like people, not like pilots. The EPG has a "Whole Company" approach, ie we are trying to make Empire a better company for every employee, not just pilots, but believe it or not that has been a incredibly difficult challenge. I know you believe this to be a "one bad apple" in the bushell issue, but the ever increasing number of EPG members and what they have to say points to a very upset grove. Lets work together to make it healthy again. Best regards.

hey Bling I got your good side too. Hey did you get that "item" we looked at the other day. Hope to run into you soon. T Sky and I had to spend the weekend in SIT. Not good.

Blue Skies, Noid

Afirm. Shoots pretty good but is too heavy to carry. I leave that job for my H & K USP. Also just picked up a Mossberg 500 Home Defender model for the next loser who commits Grand Theft Auto at my house.
The good ol' Sheeatica Shuffle huh? Good times. Geez, I can't remember the last time I've flown there or slept in midget beds. I'm pretty much a full time floater now for some reason. Lets take a ride during the next stretch of warm weather. Get Some!!!

I was lucky, only had to do the Sitka thing two or three times, and only for one night. That was back in the days of Liz, and that meant rum and cokes and pizza for all.
As for DP in dispatch, I would call him a pilot hater and not trust what he says. Sorry to hear about Dale in dispatch, I always got along with him pretty well.

Yeah right, pilot hater. That's why he goes to bat for you guys all the time. I've seen him get called in on the carpet for going to bat for a pilot or granting a request that put the company in a tight position for crewing. I've also seen him stand up to FedEx GOCC and others because of trying to screw guys at the last minute. He is also the one that is working his butt off to get everyone home for Christmas. And has done so every year that I've been here. Oh and when Mr. Lloyds training contract got screwed up, he is the one that figured it out and went to the powers to be and had it corrected. He could have ignored it and let it go because no one else went to bat for him. But then again the "pilot hater" must have had another motive........

Yeah he really hates you guys. That's why he was one that made the recommendations on the Holiday kicker for those that get stuck away from thier base. He also pushed through the hourly per diem so you guys get paid for your travel time back when you didn't before. He does so much for you guys, and you have no idea. But that's typical.

Again, everyone is saying they want to open the lines of communications. Well you have some one willing to talk but it sounds like you really don't want to. It's too bad!

Wow, you sound very angry. Maybe a public forum isn't the right place for this. The EPG has opended a official, private and positive avenue to discuss such things. I would talk with Dave K or Randy L who are the reps. And BTW I've only been home for one christmas, no Thanksgivings or any other American holiday or birthdays/family birthdays in my five years here.
