I think we at Alaska Airlines are going to discover that Alaskans are not particularly fond of the airline headquartered in SEA that simply borrows the name of the state....The city and borough of Juneau owns all the airport facilities such as terminals, jetways, ticket counters, bagwells etc....One of our core business strategies is to run the competition out of business and immediately bend over the locals....we may find this strategy has the potential to backfire....badly....RNP was developed using Alaska Airlines money, jets etc.....but the technology was owned by a couple guys who worked on it....they built a company designing radius to fix RNP arrivals and approaches for anyone and everyone around the world.....subsequently they sold this company to a large well known aviation company who will happily build rf rnp approaches for anyone....I think Widget World knows all of this and intend to benefit from it........

Yep. Years of bending Alaskans over in a monopoly will not help. Competition is always good for everyone involved. Hopefully Alaska's game improves.

As for Delta going to Juneau--so what? They'll figure out that it's no picnic when the weather isn't perfect, which can be any time of year. One of the worst weather days I've experienced in Juneau was this past Summer. Good luck to them.

SEATTLE, Dec. 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Alaska Airlines is adding daily flights to three more cities from Salt Lake City next summer, marking the latest in a series of route expansions. The carrier will begin flying nonstop from Salt Lake City to Boise, Idaho, and Las Vegas on June 16 and between Salt Lake City and San Francisco on June 18. Special introductory sale fares on the new flights will be available for purchase Tuesday, Dec. 24,

"Known for our award-winning service and low fares, we're pleased to offer travelers more opportunities to experience Alaska Airlines' unique service when they fly," said Joe Sprague, vice president of marketing. "These new flights are in addition to our previously announced service between Salt Lake City and Portland, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Jose, which also start next June. These additional flights will complement Alaska's strong network on the West Coast."

The airline will fly one daily roundtrip each between Salt Lake City and Boise and San Francisco, and two daily roundtrips between Salt Lake and Las Vegas. Flights from Salt Lake City to San Francisco allow travelers same-day connections to the airline's nonstop service to Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.




Ok, this is getting good. Hopefully more mainline planes will head West. I think this will benefit DL pilots with forced mainline growth....

I am almost sure this was RA plan the whole time. It worked to his advantage perfectly SWA is busy, AMR is really busy, UAL is still a mess. Icing on the cake... DAL pilots retain the best merger attorney in the business. I would like to think we can pull it off but the latest news I have heard is AS is considering... DP has offered oneworld and a stronger partnership... Don't think it's enough.

I agree. Plus, you DON'T want route overlap. When you compete directly on certain routes, the Govt wants to keep that for consumers. Both DL and AK have been adding routes directly against each other. That would make it tougher to sell to the Justice Dept and Dept of Transportation, not easier. These latest moves show overlap.

Me thinks is that it drops the stock price when there is direct competition....not just one airline on a route anymore reaping the profits. Wall Street notices that sort of thing. Especially if cash cow profitable routes start to get eroded..on both sides.

One seasonal leg to Juneau and a bunch of Rj flights isn't going to drop the stock much. But, it might get big D all warmed up for SE Alaska flying when they buy us. GL can ride in my right seat on the way up to Sitka and buy that third beer he likes to talk about!

Yeah but think about the stock price across the whole spectrum of routes. The stock price WILL drop because exclusive profitability will go down, the better to pull off the all-stock swap purchase of AK.

Juneau isn't the only route where we are going to head to head anymore.
