lines are typically 17-22 off with a mix of FO and IRO trips (typically three trips a month). More senior trips (HKG, PEK, NRT normally you can only get the IRO position). In my opinion the trips are all good with London being the worst.
Yeah my line with 19 days off and 6 whole legs is just killing me (pocono pilot, your a tool!). Do everyone a favor and stay off any CAL thread unless its called .... CAL, I didn't come over (for whatever reason) and am still bitter.
...controller. I've heard of people checking in as Charlie Alpha Lima 90 (i.e. CAL90) and they (israelis) didn't question it, they just sent up someone to investigate (with missiles). I guess the moral of the story is, don't try to be cute, don't get lazy; cause they don't f&*k around over there!
The seniority list has a 3.5 year gap between guys hired 09/01 and 04/05 so the upgrade time will definitely "jump" come next bid when the next group will hold it.
2 years will happen for the mid 05 hires
of course when they go to training..................
Do yourself a favor....RENT! I moved out there with the wife back in 99 and bought a new custom home in the Woodlands. Within a year (ok a summer, but the summer is like 10 months long) we knew it wasn't as "great" as we thought. We ended up moving a in three years and then it took 9 months...
Once a year you can change your "significant other" travel companion. Your kids are there till 18 or 21 (didn't care cuz mine's 4!). The charge for domestic coach is 10 + 2.50 security fee each way for everyone in your family. It doesn't matter if the flights on express or CAL. There is a...
O.k for a little clarification, its not a check ride Per se. The CQST which is done for landing currency is very laid back and most of us actually enjoy the refresher. It is a training event and train to proficiency rules. I still wouldn't want to have to spend the night and do it again, but...
I got to wave the B.S. flag on that one. Being the most junior guy on the plane , I can speak from experience. Not to knock any other fleets crews, but the 777 guys (sorry haven't flown with any of the gals yet) have been the best, most laid back professional gang I've worked with. It is "the...
I talked to a Cathay Pacific crew over China on the way home from Hong Kong a few months ago. They were in a 340, and were burning 20K lbs. an hour compared to our 15K. Now we were a few thousand feet (meters ops) above them, but on a 16 hour leg = $$$$. As we passed them doing .85 they...
Normally, those questions are just to get you talking and to try to learn what kind of a person you are. I've always heard that paging thru your logbook and recalling many stories in the past will help answer them. Remember, not everyone have been in a 2.5 negative g dive with a mig at...
I wouldn't say that, its just that being on reserve you don't get called much. So mucho time in the crash pad unless you live near by =). As for the overnights, LGW is ok (free train into town, just low time for a 777 trip), CDG is a great overnight (just lots of traffic on ride back to...
