I am beginning to think....As long as you land at the right speed and angle water crash landings seem survivable! Not a bad idea if you lose an engine on takeoff or at altitude...ditch in a river or as close to the shoreline as possible......

Hello,
I am an airline pilot who has recently had the desire to get back into GA flying. I live n a wonderful area of the country that offers GA pilots with many great scenic destinations.
Assuming a 172 costs $90/hr (wet rate) to rent and I want to fly around 10-12 hours per month...
FlightInfo is a great site and my personal favorite, however I am wondering if there are any other aviation sites on the web dedicated exclusively to GA Pilots.
I am once again flying GA and wanted to join such a forum to discuss fly-in destinations, aircraft performance, GA aircraft reviews...
Hello,
I was talking to a Jet Broker yesterday at HPN who drove off in a Porsche 911 Twin Turbo shortly after we finished a conversation.
Are all these guys making six figures or is it one of those career paths where a lot never make it and only a few excel at it?
I am just curious as it...
I am a Regional Airline Pilot with a civilian background. I flew plenty of single engine and twin engine GA Aircraft over the years and lately have wanted to get back into flying single engine GA aircraft as a hobby.
My question is: What is the likelihood of dying in a single engine piston...
Hello,
As a professional pilot I do not get to fly on other airlines besides the regional I fly for and its affiliates. I have heard from a colleague that some airlines offer a channel on their radios that allows you to listen to the ATC transmissions that are occurring while you fly. I am...
Hello,
I am wondering how hard it is to get into an aircraft sales position with a company like Gulfstream, Cessna, Beechcraft, etc. I would assume you need to already be a commercial pilot with turbine flying time and prior sales experience. I am assuming a career like this could be quite...
I am posting this question in regards to getting into to business jet sales. It seems like it could be potentially a highly paid job since business jets cost so much. However, Id also imagine they (Gulfstream, Cessna, etc) select very few candidates. I am a regional jet captain, just wanted to...
Just a quick general question I have for everyone. Lets say im in a single engine taking off from an island airport and will be out over the water within a minute or two after takeoff. Just a few examples....Mackinaw Island in Michigan, Block Island in Rhode Island, Fishers Island in NY, etc. Do...
WOW; you mean to say that an airplane can be flown without an autopilot?????
Subject: Unbelieveable, the pilot had to actually fly the airplane
Emergency at ANA
Oh, NO ! ! ! :-)
No Autopilot what a crises!
ANA(ALL NIPON AIRWAYS)jet lands manually after autopilot fails
OSAKA -- An...
Sorry if this question is a bit off topic for the board. I have access to a 172 and wanted to fly to airports within close proximity to ski resorts in the Northeast (particularly the states of Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire) to ski on my days off from work. I know that Bethel, Maine has an...
We recently spoke about how dumb a pilot was to fly over Lake Michigan at night in a single engine aircraft. My next question is.....when a Cessna 172 is manufactured in the US and someone in Germany wants to buy it does a ferry pilot have to fly it all the way from Kansas to Germany? If sooo...
I am just wondering if it is safe to apply a high degree of flaps while executing a turn to final at low speeds? I never heard anything about it being dangerous until today when a fellow pilot I know said it could cause a spin due to the assymmetry of simultaneously banking and extending all...
Ok heres the scenario: I am thinking about buying a 1998 Cessna 172 by financing it. I would plan to fly it about 10 hours per month, buy 100LL AvGas for it (obviously), rent a tiedown spot, do preventative maintenance, insurance costs, and have the annual inspection done. How much do you think...
