Two of them. Number 1 and 3. One of them has attempted upgrade three times. The one is year is to the effective date of the vacancy Dec 26, 2011 not the class date Oct 10th 2011.

I thought you only got 2 chances? (not "you" in particular, but "you" in general)

thats a slight exaggeration... though right now its running about a year on the Classic.

yes, the most recent award went to a guy at 1 yr, the previous award for the 200 was two guys at 9 months. where does it go from there?

in my class in 08, one guy had been here 6 months, initial GS and initial sim, no IOE and was in upgrade class right after he did the IOE, the other more junior guy was just out of initial GS, 1 month off, then in class with us.

So how many crews are we short? especially with 4 more 200's coming online by the end of the year?? it will go to new hires again soon, it has to, who is going to bid it?

If you have two training failures/line check failures within a two year lookback the company has the option to terminate you. This rarely happens. Usually is means a permanent FO position.

The captain upgrade training at Kalitta is no picnic. If you come to ground school to learn you are behind the curve big time. Ground school for upgrade is a review of the systems/GOM. We have several that try to upgrade and don't make it. When I went through a few years ago we were at about a 50-60% pass rate. We have hired lots of people with heavy international time. They typically have no problem. It is the lower time/domestic guys that seem to have trouble from what I hear. I was told once by the chief pilot that they were done hiring commuter guys because of training issues. They still hire the occasional commuter guy so I guess he changed his mind.

well don't feed them bad info, we interview and hire a lot of commuters, probably most of them are. heck half the check airman on the classic are commuter types.

I can name a half dozen non-commuter types that have tried to upgrade and have had some difficulties and/or failures... come on Emb, don't generalize too much.

We definitely hire a ton of commuter guys. Some of the best pilots I've flown with have nothing more than 1900 time.

Hmmm. Things are changing I guess. PW told me to my face that they were not going to hire anymore commuter guys. I will say that I was surprised PW said this. Many of the commuter guys fly the sh!t out of the sim. Hell, I came here from them. Glad to hear PW had a change of heart.

he or they have no choice, who is out there? why wouldn't they in the first place, we all were commuters.
