Seems to me that everyone is criticizing the lack of participation (support) of the picketing, but I think the real issue that needs to be addressed is the purpose/timing of the picketing. When I first heard of it earlier this week, I was scratching my head on the timing.

I agree with a previous poster... that when the time is appropriate, everyone will be there. But from I've heard, the picketing will proceed even if there is a TA.

Something seems amiss.

I wouldnt look so much into the timing of this picketing...If we reach a TA prior to the picketing I think its safe to say that it would be called off...But I highly doubt that we will have a TA in the next 24 hours when there are still 10+ sections that need closing

Man, I have absolutely NO beef with you whatsoever. I'll make this promise now, "If I ever meet you, or have the opportunity to spend some time talking with you, the meal and drinks are on me!" but you are the only ALPA rep I have ever heard openly posting on a public forum. And you seem to post your own opinion on subjects, not the MECs. I read your above post right before I received the JNCs email and they read TOTALLY different. This confuses me, I don't know if your MEC is ready to fight or if you want to negotiate. You have many followers and seem very passionate about their wellbeing out of this, and I commend you for that. But a rep is suppose to represent, lead by example, and be a calm head of their union army. When you post openly against what the JNC or your MEC is putting out, then that IS driving a wedge. People must make a decision to follow you, or stay in the herd.

I'm sure you are frustrated, and it does show in what you post. Sometimes more than others. As mentioned before you are the only union leader leader that I know of that posts on public forums. I think it would be very difficult to hide those frustrations and remain positive given what you guys have been through, but I do feel words of encouragement may go further in unifying ALL the the pilot groups, and your energies could be used better in the fight with the other two MECs and then toward the company. At times it seems like you are sprinkling gas on an already hot fire.

If it makes you feel better, or even more confused... ask around about who wrote the JNC updates last week.... Cheers....

I am guilty of being a bit "radical" at times. Personally I also believe in doing anything to your best effort to the full extent (obviously while still being "legal"). There is no reason to "lay back" and I know we are in different mindsets with 2 totally different circumstances. Rest assured that I am NOT out to divide us, I know we haven't met but I only do union work to help the group. I get nothing out of it, except a higher handicap on the golf course...

Never met Higney, but it was pretty easy to find out who he is. He seems to me to be a bit radical (by ALPA standards) and very outspoken. Both of these things could very well be a benefit. Shake things up a bit, if you will. He may also be a "Great Guy", I don't know. But he DEFINATLY should not be openly posting his own ideology on public forums. It creates a division between the Higney followers and the MEC as a whole. In political terms, this could be called a COUP or Mutiny in the Navy.

If you do trust him, great! If you like him, that's fine too. If your friends with him, you might ask him to refrain from posting ANY personal opinions on a public forum (FI/APC).

Plus, in my opinion, it makes it look like the Pinnacle MEC has nothing better to do than post on this board. In my fantasy world, I guess I invisioned the union working tirelessly to get this done. The last thing I would want to do when working tirelessly is talk about it more during my off time.

Mesaba's pompous attitude towards Pinnacle

Mesaba MEC Negotiating Update:

Negotiations for the Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement continue this week in Washington, D.C., and have yielded positive results. During the first ten hours of bargaining, we reached a Tentative Agreement (TA) on Sections 11 (Training & Testing) and 24 (Filling of Vacancies), and continued progress on Sections 25 (Scheduling) and 27 (Insurance Benefits). We believe a TA on the JCBA is within reach by the end of the week.

As some of you may have heard, the Pinnacle MEC is planning a number of informational picketing events commencing on Friday, December 10 in Memphis, TN. We have typically found informational picketing to be very successful when we have reached an impasse during bargaining. However, considering the progress at the bargaining table this week, we believe it will be counter-productive to engage in picketing at this time. While we respect the Pinnacle MEC’s point of view, we are asking all Mesaba pilots to refrain from participating at these events. We need to remain focused on our goal of One Contract for One Seniority List.

Keep drinkin the kool-aid! You "believed" a JCBA was within reach on Nov 15, and it wasn't. Now you believe a JCBA is within reach by the end of the week, I have news for you: it isn't! If your pilot group has any unity and are on the same page as us, then you would picket alongside us!!! I cannot believe the stance your MEC has taken. You should be ashamed of this action, this email!
