We have quite a few ex-ATA guys (a couple who were very senior) in the FO ranks at Compass, they freely acknowledge they'll bolt once better opportunities arrive on the marketplace.
In the meantime though they're gaining a type rating, maintaining currency, and still doing something to bring in money for their families, even if it is a miserly sum. When things do turn around they'll be very marketable, years of experience, still actively flying, and a type rating on a 4th generation aircraft.
If you're lucky maybe your airline will recall one day, if not, hopefully for your sake some of the less selective carriers will hire pilots who've not flown for a couple years.
