Here's the latest I have. I don't know if you all have this already:

1) 0001 Monday July 16th is the start of electronic pilot application acceptance. Three days later they send out the first letters for interviews

2) Application should take about 1 hour to fill out online. It's suggested you print out the instructions first and read them before you try filling out the application online. I think the website is going to be www.united.com/pilot

3) UAL pilots can send electronic recommendations on Skynet from the Flight Ops home page. The pilot applicant must have his application filled out FIRST. The recommender (is that a word?) must use the exact e-mail address used by the applying pilot. Also, an applicant can upload letters of recommendation and resumes with their application.

4) Mins are:

1500 TT fixed wing
1000 multi-engine or single seat fighter
500 hours turbine
ATP
100 hours in the past 12 months

5) Process will involve a phone interview to verify qualificaitons, a personal interview in ORD with a UAL interview Captain and a HR rep, then a final screening board (applicant not invited).

6) Extra points awarded to Son/Daughters/Interns and those with electronic pilot recommendations. If you are in the sons/daughters/intern category, make sure you check that box on the electronic application or it won't be counted.

7) Planning on 100 new hires this year and 300 next year unless Age 65. Even with Age 65, they will still need to hire "some" pilots. "Some" being undefined.

That's all I know guys. Good luck if you choose to apply here.

UAL Driver,

Thanks for the info. From your post it sounds like the 1000ME is not a PIC requirement. Is that what you are hearing? Seems like that would make sense as I'm sure there are plenty of current United pilots that don't have 1000ME PIC, but do have 1000ME SIC.

Hope that is the case, otherwise its going to be awhile:(

Hi!

The website:

1000 hours Multi-engine time (PIC) or Military fighter/trainer (PIC).

Without any flaming comments, what is the prime motivation to apply at United? Just curious.

For guys at the regionals, it's better than where they're at. I hated NWA with a passion, but I would have left Pinnacle for there in a heartbeat.

Maybe in the long run... their payscales are truly atrocious.

Hopefully their FIX IT NOW campaign will make things better and more attractive at UAL..

Hi!

If you're really into widebodies, I'd suggest Emirates or Cathay Pacific.

United job

As an ex-United guy I have to say I would have a hard time leaving a regional jet captains job to go to United. Bad moral, bad schedules and the threat of a buy-out/merger just don't seem attractive. I have friends reasonably high up in the training center that won't recommend the job to my friends. I have a hard time believing it is worth risking moving from a stable company, even as a F/O with a chance of upgrading soon, to go to United. Too bad, when I got hired there in '99 I thought I was set for life.....

2001 Hiring pool

I was in the hiring pool in 2000-2001 waiting for my class date. They through out the pool. I would love to contact someone about getting another shot. I just can't seem to get a contact name or number or e-mail. Anyone have some intel ?

That's the problem, though. There's just no such thing as a "stable" regional job. When you only do feed for someone else, your job is just one RFP away from nonexistence.

It's to bad that they don't realize that they already have over 100 pilots hired that have been in the pilot pool for 7 years. It would be nice and the right thing to do if they would give us a chance. But we are getting left out in the cold and probably will never get another chance at United. If the sons and daughters get special treatment why wouldn't we. They have already spent lots of money on us.

Our payrates are just as atrocious as yours!

Yep... pretty close, and that's sad when you compare the sizes of our respective airlines. I couldn't afford to go back to year 1 either here or at UAL.

Unfortunately, from what my friends at UAL say, your work rules on your LCO side got gutted just about down to FAR's. At least for us, it's still ~ 60 block hours of flying for 80 hours of pay in 15 days of work with reserves working 16 days/month.

I really hope you guys get to recover your losses. I'll be happy to join you guys in a picket line.

BTW... now that the deal has been inked between UAL and AQ, have you guys gotten any details?

In the modern world of RFPs, sham bankruptcies, and whipsaw, there's no such thing as a stable airline job, especially at a regional airline.

Would you really want to leave F9 after 4 years to go to UAL?

Thanx UALdriver for taking the time to post this update. Very much appreciated.

Freight Dog-

I don't know many details except that the Company is following our contract so far. I know it is being watched very closely. When guys say, "what has ALPA done for me lately" this is one of many examples where I'm glad I have ALPA watching these little business transactions as the potential for abuse on our management's part is huge. No transfer of aircraft, despite the wild rumors. Many UAL pilots would be happy to walk your line, as well, including me. Especially if it is in HNL.......We're picketing on July 19th, and personally, I think we're starting to get their attention.

NoJoy- No problem. Glad to help. Maybe someday you'll have to return the favor :)

Someday I would love the opportunity to return the favor-hopefully in the near future.

Any UAL guys have any info on the LAX base. Is it junior or senior? How long would it take to get LAX and also how long to get it on a wide body? Thanks.

I know there's a junior man in operation somewhere in SKYNET, but I can't find it for the life of me. I'm sure someone else can chime in (and tell me where the he11 to find that little piece of information). Anyway, off the top of my head, LAX is junior. A new hire won't have any problem getting it relativelysoon. We've had furloughees come back to the right seat of the 767 simply because guys that could have held it were seatlocked and couldn't bid up to it. I guess it's possible to get it in a timely manner, barring the usual show stoppers-maybe even in indoc if you're lucky. And if you don't mind being junior for a very, very long time.

More UAL Info

Just spoke to a UAL connection in the know who said the first new hire class will be September 24th.

She also said there will be no medical exam or sim ride, just a personal interview in Chicago like ualdriver mentioned.

Supposedly the application system will be based on a 1,000 point maximum and will contain a personality inventory and cognitive test. Points will also be awarded for things like United recommendations, PIC time, Bachelor's Degree, etc.

Thought this would be interesting info for you all, good luck to all us UAL wannabe's!

In spite of what it says on the website, I've heard several people say the ME requirement will not be a PIC requirement. Not sure if it is true, but it seems a little strange. I could see 1000PIC and 1000ME, or even 1000 Turbine PIC...but the 1000ME PIC seems strange. Do any other carriers have 1000ME PIC requirements? Anybody want to take a shot at the logic behind this? Does someone with 1000hrs in a Seneca and an ATP and some SIC time in a Pilatus seem more qualified than a captain at a regional with 500 or 750 hours as PIC in an RJ? In the end, I guess it will be whatever the company says it will be. I'm sure they will have more applications than they can deal with.
