Funny story, the SIC that always wears the uniform when he can dress down was flying with another PIC yesterday and the freight showed up early and he left him. I am definitely going to buy that PIC a drink.

Capt. who insisted that FO's synchronize their watch to his. In hard IFR before making a turn would ask the FO to "clear your side". Had a theory that flying fast was safer. You would arrive at your destination that much quicker thus leaving less time in the aircraft in which something bad could happen. EVERYONE: Take note of this theory and always drive 100mph. I mean hey, you'll get there that much quicker thus leaving less driving time in which to have a wreck. DO IT! IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE!

I flew with a douche bag that when ever we'd fly in the rain (We are from Fl. so it rains alot) he would put on a hair net before he got out of the aircraft. As a air ambulance crew we are required to help lift out patients. So before we'd load or deplane a patient this numbnuts would do so sort of stretching and calistetic's right in front of line guys and family members of the patient. But the worst is that everytime we'd land at any field even a controlled he,d anounce over the radio IE" Tampa traffic N#$# has arrived at TPA. I've slapped the mike out of his hands a couple of times.

I was flight instructing Pre 9/11 and and this guy came in and starting asking questions about flight school. He seemed pretty interested in flying and seemed like a perfect candidate for some multi, since he told me he already had his PVT. He said he wanted some twin time, he was sick of flying singles......"sweet" huh. Well, I asked to see his license and medical and he pulls out this big as# piece of paper and it was a fake license from MS flight simulator.....I started laughing my arse off....But he was dead serious, he really thought he was a Pvt pilot..

I ended up milking him for a couple of hours of pointless multi anyway....it was strictly flight seeing.

I had to go into a Fry's groccery store one night on the way home from the airport to pick up something for my wife, and I was wearing my uniform - does that make me a loser, or can I get off this one time?

In my defense I felt really uncomfortable the whole time I was in there!

I flew with a captain who seemed to spend most of the flight with his finger up his nose. After he was done drilling he would wipe it on the DV window.

At dinner with the same guy, he sneezed without covering his nose and snot went all over my dinner. He got angry when I mentioned he should buy me a new dinner.

During the malstrom of hurricanes in FL last summer, I wrapped up a trip in CVG and had a couple hours before commuting home to batten down the hatches for the next blow. Family said all the batteries were sold out down there, so the CA I had just done the trip with ran me over to the local WallyWorld so's I could stock up. No time to change, and danged if I didn't feel uber uncomfortable running around in there in uniform.....minus the hat of course!

I love it when I'm trying to get down, or ATC has slowed us significantly and I call for flaps 30 and the CA goes for the gear handle. I just let 'em sweat it out. Or, when we get slowed on the downwind, but its still a few KTS above our min maneuvering and they ask "want some flaps?" Uhhh, no thanks!

Worst loser so far? Writes a big check, schedules a bunch of lessons for two weeks, and the check bounces halfway through the schedule. I cancel all future lessons and the guy moves out of state at the end of two weeks.

Then there was this other student, when I flew with him he was over 250 pounds. He's now at 150 pounds.

Sit down in my seat on the first leg of a 4 day. Captain turns to me and the first thing he says to me is "So, are you an avid GA pilot?". I look at him and say, "What the hell is GA?" I then recieve a tongue lashing about how I have a bad attitude because I only fly if I am getting paid for it. That 4 day I think he read every pilot, RC, model a/c magazine in the free world. And of course he had a tip for everything I was doing "wrong".

Oh, and on his days off he goes to the local grass strip and cuts the grass for free.

No offense, but some of us out threre on the line actaully love flying, in any form. Paid or unpaid, although paid is certainly better.......

Sounds fine to me. If that's his favorite thing to do, then not only is he in the right career, he has a right to do as much of what makes him happy as he wants to.

My favorite, a certain captain, despised by many FOs who kept a very large self portait of himself as the screensaver on his cell phone. When asked who he admired in aviation, he unabashedly said he admired "himself" ! !

As far as the mowing the local grass strip for free...hey it's a free country, you can put images of yourself on your cell phone, or mow grass for free, whatever floats your boat! (even though I personally think one is the action of an egomaniac)....

We have these great productivity breaks at Mesaba for like, 4 hours. The Mall of America is a 10 min train ride away and lots of crews go to the mall for food or the movies or just to get the heck out of the airport. Most don't change... but let it be known here that these folks are at work. They're not there on their day off. We have a few dorks at Mesaba, but I don't think they'd be caught dead in uniform on their day off, where fellow XJers might see them. =)

I'd have to nominate the comair guy I saw at the gorcery store a few months ago, wearing his hat in the dairy aisle. I'm ok with going to the store or something on the way home, but for crying out loud, take the darn hat off!

I would not consider the pilot in the story to follow to be a tool, just a funny old guy with more time inside the marker than I will ever have.

He is teaching me to fly the beech 99 from Reno to Winnemucca and we are unpress at 17,500. I go for the O2 mask and he says "God I hate when people use that crap, I don't like smoking around it". I put it away and he graciously offers me a pall mall nonfilter. I shudder to think of the buzz I would have missed out on had I not lit up and gone for the O2 instead.
