When does CAL hiring starts again?

I would guess they try to interview the local people in EWR, but it all depends on what they have open that matches your sched as well.

On the 737 in EWR Reserve will be just a couple of months or so. The 756, a little longer. Longer still for anyone that gets down to IAH or CLE..

Don't know much about GUM... good perk could be it's closer to Bangkok? You do get 2nd year pay immediately if you go down to guam and agree to stay for I believe 18 months. You also get a housing allowance ($1200/mo I think?), but you'll apparently use almost all of it; expensive.

I've heard it's great for a flexible outdoor type family or a single guy...

I am currently in the top 95% on the 737 in EWR (May '06 newhire). By the end of this system bid (runs through June '07) I will be around 55-60%. On the 756 EWR I would be around 80%. With PBS you need to be around 90-92% to hold a line supposedly. Hope this helps.

Usually initially by phone. So if you have voicemail make sure it is what you would want any professional to hear.Good Luck--- we are hiring about 60-70 a month at the moment and new hires are going to mainly EWR on the 737, but also the the 756. Keep you applications updated regularily and keep in touch with as many folks at Continental that you can. Great place to be! Hope you get to experience it.​

Okay, apparently Sacko didn't understand my post. Most of the guys I have flown with are going to retire at 60 regardless of the change in the rule. If and when the rule is officially passed, then we will know if the retirement rate will change.

Much much better, sorry man, I just didn't know what question you were answering. Understand it now. BTW have you noticed most of the 83 hires want to fly until they die, but 99% of the others want to retire today, if monetarily possible. I ask that question somewhere during the trip. It's still playing out true. I don't get it? Not picking, just an observation.

Well you will be on reserve foreEVER!! any you will not fly, when you get called you will most likely be an IRO. So that means you have to go down to IAH every 3 months to get landing current in the sim.

Depends on where you live, and if you have a family. If you have a family and live within a realistic two hour drive of EWR (say anywhere between PHL and BDL) the 777 FO on reserve in EWR is about the best job out there if you like to spend time with your family. If you do not live within two hours of EWR plan on spending many many long days staring at the walls of your crash pad with 4-10 smelly guys instead of playing soccer with your kids.

If I understand right (and someone please correct me), you'll be stuck on that a/c for two years before you can "bid down" to the 737 or 756 fleets. I personally wouldn't bid it, but then I also wouldn't walk out of class if assigned it, either.

Not necessarily...I am an 05 hire and would be around 85-90% in EWR on the 777.and with PBS it is not to far from the G line. Also the bid in January will probably have 22 more vacancies with the addition of 2 more 777s

I agree, but I believe the 777 will slowly go more senior over the next couple of years as opposed to the current bid. What a mid '05 hire is able to hold in a couple years vs what a late 06 or early 07 hire could be completely different. JMO, and definately not scientific.

Just out of curiosity, why is Continental doing so much hiring? Are they growing that fast, or losing that many pilots to retirement? When the other legacies start hiring again, hopefully in the near future, can we expect any hiring to be done near the degree of Continental?
