I would guess they try to interview the local people in EWR, but it all depends on what they have open that matches your sched as well.
 
On the 737 in EWR Reserve will be just a couple of months or so. The 756, a little longer. Longer still for anyone that gets down to IAH or CLE..

Don't know much about GUM... good perk could be it's closer to Bangkok? You do get 2nd year pay immediately if you go down to guam and agree to stay for I believe 18 months. You also get a housing allowance ($1200/mo I think?), but you'll apparently use almost all of it; expensive.

I've heard it's great for a flexible outdoor type family or a single guy...
 
I am currently in the top 95% on the 737 in EWR (May '06 newhire). By the end of this system bid (runs through June '07) I will be around 55-60%. On the 756 EWR I would be around 80%. With PBS you need to be around 90-92% to hold a line supposedly. Hope this helps.
