Just out of curiosity, why is Continental doing so much hiring? Are they growing that fast, or losing that many pilots to retirement? When the other legacies start hiring again, hopefully in the near future, can we expect any hiring to be done near the degree of Continental?

5-7% annual growth and retirements are the main causes.

5-7% at Mainline

Actually, LK said the 5-7% growth target just includes CAL mainline. XJT may be above and beyond that.

that is good to hear. He told my class that it was a consolidated number to include XJT and that he expected CAL to be 1-3% per year. I like the 5-7% number better!

Sincerely,

B. Franklin

It doesn't include X-jet as they are planning on a reduction in capacity(CAL flying) starting in January. The 5-7 is mostly international seats however we are planning a 1-2% domestic mainline increase in ASM's as well. That is probably the biggest diference between us and some others. We are all increasing our intl destinations however most legacy carriers are doing so while drawing down some domestic capacity. Cal has always been smaller domestically on a percentage basis as compared to internationally and now wants to increase its domestic feed for the international expansion. This will include a higher utilization rate on the smaller 737's as well as introducing the additional 737-800's to the fleet. If we replace 50 seat jets with 70 seat Dash 8-400's as rumored, that will increase the domestic feed to EWR as well. Of course I'm typing this as the news is reporting that a plane has hit a building in NYC so this post could all be in vain. I'd better get to the airport and plan on commuting up to EWR earlier than usual.....

bye

People. People. Just look it up on any financial website or in latest issue of Aviation Week and Space Technology. These are all publicly available facts.

Fwiw

Just completed my annual MV-LOE at the AA Flight Academy at DFW (trying to keep the IAH sims available for new-hires). Word from both instructors (my FO for the check called in sick) is classes of 16/week through the end of the year, and well into 2007.

FWIW

it is likely undecided until the week of your class. airlines operate that way.

i could tell you all 756 EWR FO and have a 50/50 chance of accuracy.

be patient. they'll give assignments on the first day if i recall right. likely some 737 and some 756. either one is a great seat and good flying in EWR or IAH.

did i stay classy?

The more the better. You guys who are starting here have made a great choice. CAL is the best Legacy to work for and for sure the best airline in the US.

Our Managment is the best also, they know how to run a company well. I'm going to stay here till the end.

There will be even more newhires as we start taking back our flying from the leeches at Xjt.

Just out of curiosity, who did you fly the CRJ for? I'll give you some advice, the flying has never been "ours" or "theirs" it has ALWAYS belonged to the management team at CAL. The longer the "ours" vs. "theirs" argument persists, the longer we will go without. Sometimes we are our own worst enemies.

koolaid anyone?

koolaid anyone?

If you knew how much effort I expended into NOT throwing the Calex guys out of our MEC, you would realize how ill-informed your reply is. I take it you are one of the guys who think the pilot groups determine where the flying goes.

Now that's a retarded statement coming from a former CRJ puke.

Not all regionals are the same. Flying and RJ from lets say Houston to Mexico City is not the same as flying and RJ from Atlanta to Macon. One is flown on a route that could and probably should be flown by a mainline jet. The other would cost more to fly a mainline jet than a rj.

I hold no ill will towards Airlines like Colgan or Piedmont and ect. Its those operators who fly from Hub to Hub or Hub to major city that bother me and should bother other mainline pilots.

SK, you have no idea what you are talking about. Companies like Colgan, Piedmont and XJT are all the same. If you hold "ill will" toward XJT then you are ignorant. Continental contracts out flying to Colgan, Commutair, Gulfstream, Regions Air and XJT. CO has a list of routes it wants flown and then is assigned to respective companies. If you have a problem with that then walk into your CP office and voice your concern. Why did you not voice that in your interview w/ CAL? I am sure this end of the thread would not exist.

how many 70 seaters does XJT have? you're former employer has plenty of them.

don't call me kettle and i won't call you pot.

Wonder how he slipped through the cracks.
