I agree with you. You have got to be crazy to pick Airtran over UPS.

I flew less than 100 hours as an engineer last year. I averaged one all nighter every three weeks. I just got an afternoon flying line for next month....one transcon leg pretty much per day. Thanksgiving off....granted it's in Louisville and I don't live there but hey, I'm only on my 2nd year.
Life is rough hauling cargo.

Take 5 man. Not everyone has a choice. If we all could work at ups or fedex we probably, I repeat probably would. But for some of us, we do the best with what we are able to get. Whether that be at Airtran, UPS, etc. I would personally choose UPS if all things were equal, but Airtran is not a bad place to get stuck. 3 year upgrade, great group to work with, growing fleet and network. I'm very happy here. It beats being furloughed anyday! UPS has much better pay, workrules, etc. But freight is not for everyone. Just my .02c.

Threads like this one is usually such worthless drivel, mental masturbation if you will. Different strokes for different folks. Some people like daytime flying, some like to have pax on board, etc. Me, personally, I like the pay and most importantly, JOB SECURITY. I know things can change to any company, jada jada jada. But, this right now is the most secure that one can get. I don't care what is behind the door - pax or rubber dog$hit. 3 furloughs in about 5 years is enough for me. Give me stability.

By the way, I worked 75 hrs in my 10 months as an FE. Yeah, night flying is really killing me. I sleep more through my reserve periods than I do working.

Really, though, if you are happy, that is all that matters.

If you don't like flying nights, then get a job flying afternoon traffic watch. I don't think any airline out there is void of night schedules. If you want stable employment, a good paycheck and good QOL, let those be the parameters for any company you are contemplating working for.
