SWA has never put a pilot on the street.
Just ask the ATA/Chicago Express guys about that. I know we did not merge, but as a result of the deal they struck, myself and a couple hundred other people did get furloughed. pref. interviews did not do much for most of us(I think they hired six or seven folks)
Were not interested Southwest, thanks.

For the record there were more than just six or seven ATA folks hired at SWA.

I'm curious...why do you think the Chico pilots were owed anything at all from the deal?

I'll wager there are more ATA guys at Airtran than SWA. I remember hearing SWA took only 3 of the first 100 ATA 'preferential' interviewees. Thanks 'people' dept....

That's the problem with you SWA people... Why would you want to "do damage"? That means other people not on your property can't feed their kids or pay their alimony. Remember, we're all in this together... or at least, that's what I thought.

Tell that to an ex Eastern pilot you dumbass.

Maybe because the deal eliminated their jobs?

I always favor DOH for any merger involving two mainline carriers, even though a ratio would be far more favorable to me in this case.

I think this is the best strategy for any air carrier. In fact, my company, who was the aquiring company, did this for the corporate departments being folded in and for the most part there has been little heartburn. Ok, there has been a little, but that is for the corporate board, ha,ha Cheers- rum

And the other potential deals (with AmWest and AirTran) would not have ended Chico feed? Give me a break, AirTran ditched their regional feed a long time ago and America West has Mesa plus others.

I feel for the Express employees that lost their jobs but expecting to go from a Saab feeding ATA to stapled or any other kind of merge with SWA is unrealistic.

Possibly, but I would have favored hiring them rather than just tossing them aside as you seem to favor. Wouldn't want to harm your precious CULTure, after all.

You have got to be freakin kidding. You don't just give a job to someone because they had a little bad luck. Get real.

We shouldn't be giving $300 bucks to folks who don't pay taxes either, but that is another mess altoghter.

If you are truly thinking of voting for Obama or Clinton, you really need to do your homework. This isn't a Socialist country.

Obama??? Refuses to wear the flag of the country he seeks to represent??? Eff'n Muslim too. Hillary???That pretty much says it all doesn't it??

I'm going with either Mcain or Huckabee

Yea that makes sense Huckabee thinks humans roamed the earth with dinosaurs. And Mcain can barely keep his skin on.

Obama doesn't wear the flag, because you don't need to shove it in someone else's face to show your a patriot. FDR, Truman, Kennedy, Lincoln etc never wore some pin they lived the part of a patriot. Now Hitler, Mussolini, Kim young yill always wear some form of pin flag.

And lets see Clilnton wants to allow a child who is dying of cancer and has no medical insurance to become covered through the govt. just like old folks are covered by medicare. And guess what it won't cost very much because young people get sick less.

People like you TWEpilot are disgraceful to this country, hopefully we can get more immigrants that actually paid attention in class and work hard to replace you. Of course they will be working for me but hey it's all good.

Since when is wearing a flag pin supposed to be a prerequisite for running for office? Give me a break. If this is really what you're worried about, then you need to take another look at your priorities. And he's not a Muslim. Never has been. Life long protestant. You've been listening to too much crap coming out of the scumbag Clinton campaign.

I like Huckabee with the exception of his healthcare ideas, but he's not going to get the nomination. Too many anti-Christian bigots in this country nowadays. As for McCain, the only way I'd ever vote for him is if the Hilldabeast is the Dem nominee.

So what does Air Tran bring to the table during a merger? I know there is ATL, and airplanes, but is there anything else?

So anyone who disagrees with you is a disgrace to our country?

More immigrants..... Thats a great idea.

Interesting philosophy.

Does your union leader wear his pin? or just the rank and file?

Question for the Air Tran guy/girls. What is the DOH FOR YOUR MOST JUNIOR CAPT? How many pilots have you hired in the last 4 years?

Well, I do think we did deserve a little more truth from both sides about what was coming. We were told we would shrink but not go away. If AirTran was the victor we were told we would continue at our current size and operation. The Southwest puppet who was put in charge of ATA holdings laid us off after being on the job for 3 days.
As far as the number of ATA guys hired I would wager that my number of 6-7 guys out of the pref interview is pretty acurate. Over the past three years I have no idea who has finally made the move over. Nothing against the pilots of WN. The management is smart and they got what they wanted.(MDW)

The latest vacancy for 717 CA goes down to a January of '05 hire date. The 737 is more senior. Just over half of the seniority list has been here for four years or less, so about 800-900 pilots.
