This question is for existing SWA pilots. Since the airline will start hiring soon. Do you have any advice for those pilots who are currently in the hiring pool and those pilots who are applying to your airline for the first time?

How many pilots are in the pool and can we expect Southwest to start accepting applications again anytime soon?

I would guess about 175 in the pool with at least 100 being pulled in the first quarter if I remember the earlier posts correctly.

Don't know if this opens up the app process again, but I thought I heard that it was going to.

180 in the pool. hiring 200 next year. Hiring is due to March flight increase and summer pilot shortages. Not taking anything away from AAI.

Application window not open yet. Stay tuned should open up real soon. Pool could get drained pretty quick depending on how many are on mil assignments, no takers, etc.

2 classes of 20 in January. Just some things tanker clown told me.

Heard the first class is 5 Jan followed by one on 12 Jan. Sweet!!!!! Bring on the new guys and gals!!!

That checks with what the friendly folks at the PD told me. Tanker Clown is throwing the party for the first class. I heard he used to be pretty high up at the union and will probably be the chief pilot when DEN opens.

Oh, why do I get the feeling that ISN'T a good thing...

Good to hear people getting calls.

Will they have to buy a 717 type?

Are the Trannies going to have to get typed?

What about the 73 type?
Are the Trannies going to have to get it?
Will the New hires still have to get it?
Getting before was bad enough, but making you get it when they just brought in a thousand or so guys who don't have it is really pushing it.

The word from management at the Training Center is there will be 3 classes each in Jan, Feb, and March. The 1st 2 classes in Jan will have 24 each and the other 9 will have 20 each, for a total of 188 new hires. They are also now evaluating if more will be needed after March.
